Woman drives car off 2nd floor parking in Ladprao

Four women were injured after their car plunged from the second floor of a Lat Phrao shopping mall on Sunday due to a jammed accelerator.

Their Bangkok-registered Mazda 2 crashed through a barrier on G2 floor of Union Mall’s parking structure in the afternoon and plunged to the ground, injuring driver Duangkamol Narkyaitham and three women passengers, Thairath Online reported.

Ms Duangkamol sustained minor injuries when the car landed on its left side and the driver's front airbag inflated. Two of the passengers had broken arms and legs, while the other was slightly injured.

Ms Duangkamol told Phaholyothin police that she was driving up the G2 ramp but the accelerator pedal became stuck and she failed to brakes in time before the car hit the barrier and plummeted to the pavement.

Police will investigate further to establish the cause of the accident.

Have seem some people using left foot for brake and right foot for accelerator on automatic transmission cars. Panic mode, hit both.....and fly.

^ We had this discussion in the motoring section.
I use right foot for accelerator and left foot for brake, but I cannot believe many thai's would as it requires learning and reason to do it effectively.

Many commentators advise against the use of left-foot braking while driving on public roads.

However, some commentators do recommend left-foot braking as routine practice when driving vehicles fitted with an automatic transmission, when maneuvering at low speeds.

Proponents of the technique note that in low-speed maneuvers, a driver of a vehicle with a manual transmission will usually keep a foot poised over the clutch pedal, ready to disengage power when the vehicle nears an obstacle. This means that disengagement is also possible in the event of malfunction such as an engine surge. However, the absence of a clutch on a vehicle with automatic transmission means that there is no such safety override, unless the driver has a foot poised over the brake pedal.

Critics of the technique suggest that it can cause confusion when switching to or from a vehicle with a manual transmission, and that it is difficult to achieve the necessary sensitivity to brake smoothly when one's left foot is accustomed to operating a clutch pedal.

I drive left and right hand manual vehicles and a right hand drive automatic - a deft touch with the left foot is used on all .

I remember a case in the UK where a lady had put her handbag in the footwell, out rolled a can of deodorant which jammed under her brake pedal.

I thought they always blamed it on the brakes failing.

Well I would automatically know within a micro second of Ann accelerator being jammed, to slam the gearbox into neutral.
    Neutralise the danger.

Is that legal in Australia for an automatic transmission? When you took your behind the wheel examination did you do it that way?
