exactly. if they "did a runner" then why didnt the restaurant staff grab them as is usually the case and why did it take from sept 5th to sept 27th before the police issued an arrest warrant, and how come they were put on an immigration black list before even hearing the tourists side of the story.
    Because they're all c u n t s?

beg ,steal or borrow if you are hungry and need to eat.

this restaurant was open from early morning til 8 at night, so to make such a drama
about 5 baht was scary. she certainly lost some regular customers that night.
think his bill came to 30 baht. dollop of rice and some fish bits.
anyway never saw the guy again.

The unpaid debt was 15,000 baht, food and beverages

The warrant alleged the father and son had walked out of the Blue Marine Resort and Spa without paying a 15,000 baht food and beverage bill - almost $NZD660.

Patong Police Captain Yingyong Chuoykij told the paper that both sides preferred to negotiate than go to a court.
"The settlement was made yesterday evening. The two men agreed to pay the bill, while the resort's representative agreed to drop the charges after the money was received."
Once the bill was settled, the pair were released.
Mr Chuoykij said the case was not serious.

nothing strange about it, it is normal behaviour for these kind of thai, nothing pleases them more than getting one back the foreigner, but think nothing of lying and cheating for gain and for saving their face.

Nobody said it was for just one meal. They maybe stayed there a couple of days, charging everything on the room and walked away without checking out.

The above article says they "settled" the so called dispute, but one might think the New Zealand media could have at least given 2 of their citizens the decency and courtesy of using the word "allegedly" unpaid to describe the restaurant bill? The settled part means nothing since they would obviously pay it whether of not they owed it to get out of jail.

One thing we can agree on is that the article of PhuketWan (the OP) was poorly researched and misleading. The article from the NZ Herald talks about a "a 15,000 baht food and beverage bill". One could imagine they met a couple of hookers, took them back to the hotel, ordered room service including champagne and expensive liquors. The next morning they sobered up, realized they went totally overboard and decided to make a discrete exit thinking they will probably never come back. Totally possible.

No, the settled part means they've admitted guilt.

if I were them, I'd be eating in McDonalds for the rest of this holiday rather than be stared and pointed at in every restaurant they turn up in.

I had to confront an Aussie yesterday for not paying a Cambodian hooker. it was none of my business I know, but she was crying and showed me her arm where the cnut had bit her

I say confront, he came outside where I was sitting and the guy was a fukking man mountain, who looked like he was one of those who come over for a steroid holiday. So i just told him politely what she'd told me.

It all ended well though, he paid and I got her number and a free beer

    possibly.

if the hotel didnt take a credit card imprint or a deposit when they checked in then they were asking for trouble.

if the kiwis did a runner then they deserve to be in the situation they now find themselves in.
