The International Companies abandoning Thailand Thread.

I was informed today that Nissan are moving their automotive business 100% to The Philippines and Toyota are moving 60% of their production to Vietnam abandoning Thailand.

Whether this information is true or not, and I received it from a very reliable OEM Ex-pat source Thailand will lose 1000's of jobs in-house and more from the other local part supplier contractors.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but unless the people running the show at the moment realize what they are doing this country is going down!

That's the greater issue at hand.
They don't realize that their assorted policies [and politics] are not beneficial to Thailand - remaining to stagnate within the cycle of fantasy.

The business infrastructures [foreign/domestic] are slowly dwindling.

They don't care it is all about succession and their place at the trough. If the trough is smaller, well all the more reason to be one of the ones at it!

Toshiba spent billions of baht setting up a mega plant here and their return has been virtually nil!

In fact if I can find out all this information why cannot others who can correct the wrongs.

New vehicle purchases have fallen 23%. It think I read that somewhere. Question is will it be cheaper to rebuild in the Philippines/Vietnam, that and all the sub contractors etc. who have to set up there.

Could be that the current regime is sending out too many pro Chinese messages and not enough pro Japanese messages.

Smart money would be to maintain the special relationship with the Japanese that Thailand has had for the last 74 years but....

I remember 1000's of people on Bang Na Trad demonstrating on the road because they lost their jobs.

Nothing explained to them..............Mushrooms, the lot of them because nothing was explained to them.

The people at the top now have to stand up and let the people they rule know what is going on.

Why should we, farangs, worry about Thailand going down the pan? Surely it's beneficial to us. Isn't it?

I seem to remember Samsung shut down their TV production here and moved it to Vietnam and Thailand also lost on another big production facility of theirs.

From another perspective, the wife has a friend whose husband works for a Jap company ( apologies I don't know which one ).
He was due to go to Japan on a training course. He didn't go I asked why. The last 3 Thai who went either turned up late or missed days. They were too pissed. "Don't send any more Thai" was the message from Japan

You don't give them enough credit. I suspect they know exactly what they are doing. With a more educated populace and a growing middle class they may lose their grip on the country. Even if their own profits decrease, so what? They have enough and probably value control higher than a few more billions in profit.

It seems to be what had been going on in the Philippines for a long time. Keep the economy down and retain control.

Only if you convert your sterling income into Thai Baht.
There has been a feeling among Thai that these jobs from foreign investment are for life. When there are thousands unemployed and there are no farm jobs to go back to, they will get restless and angry. Who do think they will blame?
It is entirely possible that they will turn against the Junta and that could end up a bloody mess. Others will blame the 'wealthy' farang and white folk will not be safe.
If the economy collapses, and it's a distinct possibility, they will not accept responsibility for it, they will just look for someone to blame.

Is this your own private paranoia party, Chas, or can anyone join in?

What precedent is there for this in Thailand?

You didn't bother reading the OP then.
Corrupt leadership is one thing. Corrupt and incompetent leadership is quite another.
How do you think mass unemplyment will affect Thai laden with debt and only failing agriculture to go back to.
I realise you are heavily invested in this country and would prefer a different outcome, but every day the mad corporal stays, it can only get worse.

You and I have no idea how things will turn out.
You're foreseeing some sort of walking dead scenario with whitey as the meat.
Hey, if that does something for you then do carry on..

As to the op...I was responding to your post, which is your opinion, not something mentioned there.

Can't green you but yes. All about keeping the dirty peasants, well dirty and retaining the elite structure. That's exactly what will bite the current "Government" in the ass.
