Thread: Young German Woman Found Hung On Phi Phi Island

PHUKET – Maj Sakesan Boonlerd of the Phi Phi Island Police has reported that the body of a German tourist Katharina Rebacz, 26,was found hanging from a tree on Phi Phi Island yesterday.

Maj Sakesan Boonlerd said Katharina Rebacz’s body was found on the secluded Ao Por Beach, on the southeastern tip of Phi Phi Don, at about 5pm by local fishermen, who then notified police.

According to The Phuket News, Doctors at Phi Phi Hospital told police that Rebacz had been dead for six to 10 hours before her body was found.

Maj Sakesan Boonlerd said that police had found a letter tucked into her shirt that was written in German and that they arekeeping the letter as evidence and are having it translated, as they believe it may give us clues about her death he said.

Ms Rebacz’s body was transferred to Krabi Hospital for further examination today at about 11:30am.

Maj Sakesan Boonlerd said Doctors will confirm the cause of death while we continue our investigation, we have yet to rule out foul play in the case.

Ms Rebacz’s relatives and the German Embassy have been notified of her death, he added.

A 26-year-old German tourist was found hung from a tree on Koh Phi Phi Sunday evening.

Police believe Katharina Rebacz committed suicide because a suicide note was found in her shirt pocket. Her body was sent to the Krabi Hospital and the German embassy was informed of the accident. She stayed on the island for several days and she was scheduled to leave the kingdom on October 7.

^Evidently the Nation believes it was suicide? Hence their headline link. I recall the guy who was tossed off a bridge in Bangkok with his hands and feet tied, a plastic bag over his head, when found decapitated it was determined to be suicide as well.

Oh well, just another suicide...

You would have thought that they would have had the note translated prior to jumping to a conclusion. I mean - it was in German - a fairly common language - not Swahili or something.

An initial presumption of suicide makes more sense than the bollocks CSI:TD come out with.

The sad fact is that a lot of rubbish that ends up in Thailand has not planned for the future, has no decent medical insurance or money to get home, and considers suicide the easy way out.

This constant "Thais must have murdered them" bollocks is mostly just that, bollocks.

Unless the suicide note was written in broken English or Thai, there is no reason to rule this anything but a suicide.

Even most of the flying club do it themselves.
