Ex-Bangkok police chief caught with gun at Narita airport

Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, a former metropolitan police chief, has been detained by Japanese authorities at Tokyo's Narita International Airport for having a gun and ammunition in his possession, police spokesman Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thawornsiri confirmed on Tuesday.

Pol Lt Gen Prawut said police were examining reports about Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit's arrest to find out why he had the gun with him, whether or not the weapon had gone through security procedures in Thailand and how.

Police would then contact the former Bangkok metropolitan police bureau chief to see what could be done to help him, he said.

Initial reports said Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit went to Japan on June 18 on Thai Airways Flight TG 640 which departed Suvarnabhumi airport at 9.50pm.

He was found with the gun in his possession at Narita airport as he was about to board a 5pm flight to return to Thailand on Jan 22. The type of the gun was not reported, or how it was found.

Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit admitted to owning the gun and showed his identification card and documents for the weapon to Japanese authorities.

Thai embassy officials had contacted Japanese officials to provide legal assistance in the case, Pol Lt Gen Prawut said.

If he has admitted to owning the gun and has a Thai permit for it, then it is more than likely the gun travelled to Japan with him.

If it was with his checked in luggage it should have been discovered when it was x-rayed after check in, if it was on his person then it would have been found when he went through security.

I suspect he passed through a VIP channel and was allowed to keep his weapon.

It is a given that to qualify for acceptance into the Thai police force one needs to be in possession some level of mental instability, an inflated sense of entitlement, a hair trigger temper, an oversized ego, an alcohol habit and a propensity for violent outbursts at the slightest provocation, and it is of no comfort to the general flying public that these fucking twats are allowed on planes with guns.

Police would then contact the former Bangkok metropolitan police bureau chief to see what could be done to help him,
They just dont get it. They are beyond hope, a Thai cop on a plane with access to free alcohol and in possession of a gun and ammunition, and they want to help him.

    Idiots.

    Well done Thailand.

Yep, he must have owed everything to this person, he obviously wasn't bright enough to have earned it. Even back in the 1980's, well before 9-11 it took a letter from the current Chief of Police and a prior phone call to the airline to get a gun on a plane, and that was only if you were travelling for official business.

Airports of Thailand Plc deputy director Kanputt Mungklusiri said officials have examined footage from a CCTV camera at a gate at Suvarnabhumi which the former city police chief passed through.

The weapon seemed not to be detected by screening procedures, he added. However, Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit might have used a VIP gate at the airport where security screening is not required, a source said.

I do belive you have all underestimating thai's here, this is simply the furition of a long term, cold blooded act of revenge by swampy security against the police and their "we can do anything under the sun" attitude.

Do you not rember a few years ago, some young lad tried to wand a mid ranking policeman after he set of the metal detectors aw swampy checking security. He got a right good kicking for his troubles.

To avoid future incidents, they decided to just let the fuckers though without checking at all... in the full knowledge that eventually one of these little buggers would eventually do what comes natral and land themselves in the shit on the way back.

Former BKK Top Cop Still in Japanese Custody, Official Says

BANGKOK — The former commander of the Bangkok police force is still under custody in Japan for allegedly trying to bring a gun past an airport security checkpoint, a government spokesperson said.

Sek Wannamethee, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters today that the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo has dispatched lawyers and interpreters to assist the former police chief, Pol.Lt.Gen. Kamronwit Thoopkrachang.

Thai officials said Pol.Lt.Gen. Kamronwit was arrested on 22 June after airport security officers found a firearm and some ammunition in his carry-on bag at Narita Airport, one of two international airports in Tokyo.

Officials have not commented on why Pol.Lt.Gen. Kamronwit, who served as commander of Bangkok Metropolitan Police from 2012 to 2014, was carrying a gun at the time.

"The details of this incident are still under investigation, so we have to wait for legal deliberation by the Japanese authorities," Sek said. "The Royal Thai Embassy will provide convenience to him and proceed with all relevant matters in the fullest way, so that Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit will be treated fairly under the laws."

Earlier this month, five Thai students were arrested at an airport in Pakistan for allegedly attempting to carry a handgun, magazine, and ammunition onboard a plane bound for Bangkok. Thai authorities have not released details about the students' possible motive. The five are still being held in Pakistani custody.

    Kamronwit still in Japanese jail

Former Bangkok police chief Kamronwit Thoopkrachang remains in Japanese police custody pending a local prosecutors' decision on whether to indict him for possession of a gun, a process that may take 20 days.

Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thavornsiri, assistant police chief and police spokesman, said on Wednesday Japanese police had already sent the case of Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit carrying a gun at Narita airport to public prosecutors who had up to 20 days to decide if there should be an indictment.

The prosecutors had not yet made a decision, but spoke with Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit's lawyer on Thursday, the police spokesman said. The Thai ambassador to Tokyo assigned the lawyer to Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit.

"If public prosecutors indict him, his release on bail will be requested," he said.

The spokesman quoted the Thai embassy as reporting that the former Bangkok police chief was arrested at Narita airport at about 5pm on Monday, June 22 on his way back to Thailand.

Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit, 60, joined a delegation of sub-district administrators in Pathum Thani province that accepted a Japanese invitation to inspect waste-to-energy facilities.

Pol Lt Gen Prawut said Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit had confessed to owning the pistol and forgetting he had left it in his medicine pouch.

He had had the pouch loaded into the cargo compartment of his plane to Japan, but for the return trip he kept the pouch in a bag he was carrying, the spokesman said.

    not surpisingly, an obvious lie.

the weight of this "medicine pouch" would have indicated to him that there was something heavy inside other than pills and hair dye.

I hope the Japanse are duly pissed off that this clown was able to run around Japan with a weapon and ammunition

I see a fair amount of energy by the Thai police is being expended in the course of assisting this waste of space

Kamronwit's luggage scans records erased, airport says

Suvarnbhumi airport does not have the luggage scans of former Metropolitan Police chief Kamronwit Thoopkrachang as they were automatically deleted after a three-day period, the airport manager has admitted.

On Monday, Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit was arrested at Narita International Airport in Tokyo with a small handgun and ammunition while attempting to board a plane back to Thailand.

Japanese prosecutors will take between 10 and 20 days to decide whether to indict him. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said tHURSday the government would provide the former police chief with all necessary assistance.

Suvarnbhumi airport general manger Sirote Duangratana said a preliminary probe into the airport's security checks found that Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit's two carry-on bags and one checked-in bag had passed full...

Most of these chaps are unsophisticated brutes without any moral compass whose entire being is focused on self advancement and are riven with a sense of entitlement that is fed by a lifetime of privelege in this medieval country. Travelling out into the wider world is sometimes a shock to them when they encounter a rule of law. Let's hope he is punished appropriately but I suspect a spell of custody pending consideration of his case will be sufficient for the authorities and he will be released shortly.

I think that's pretty much how it will pan out...A few days detention and then a slap wrist and on your bike...as it were.
