Kasikornbank to Shut Down for 48 Hours, July 17-19 for System Upgrade

    Bangkok Post
    June 15, 2015

Kasikornbank has announced to will temporarily suspend all services, except credit cards, from 10pm on July 17, a Friday, until 10pm July 19, a Sunday, to enable upgrading of its overall banking system.

The bank put up a notification on its website informing its customers that the suspended services included ATM and debit cards, K-express cash, K-web shopping cards, all ATM machines, passbook update machines, and all electronic channels including mobile banking. All branches will be closed.

The bank’s ATM cards cannot be used with the machines of other banks during the period. Only the bank’s credit cards can be used.

The bank advised its customers to plan their transactions ahead, so they are not affected, and to ensure they had sufficient cash available to tide them over the 48 hours.

Kasikornbank to shut down for 48 hours, July 17-19 | Bangkok Post: news

I think this may be one of the banks that I visited recently that basically has little desire for foreign customers, if I recall correctly. So maybe not many TD members use this one. I was investigating different banks after moving to Prachuap, and I think this bank said I needed to show proof of work. Difficult to do on a retirement visa.

If a bank tried to pull that length of downtime in Singapore, the MAS would take their banking license off them.

I hate all the Banks I have dealt with here, on the surface it's all quite impressive but underneath they are just as bad as most things here, crooks. Three years ago I transferred some money over and had to go into sign for it, they would not give me the higher exchange rate the day they put it in my account but the lower rate a few days before when they got it. All understandable and OK.
Forward six months a much larger amount only this time the rate when they got it was higher- but they gave me the lower rate when they put it in the account, the reverse of before, making profit for them of 40k baht, bastards.

In my 7th year with Kasikorn, would have changed if had any complaints.
Depends on the branch and individual staff membérs.
The local branch has a customer service person allocated to foreigners, step into the bank I'm swooped upon and unless it's a simple teller transaction, get to see her promptly. Justifies her role i guess with less than 10 of us in the area and unsure where the others bank.
Town of 7000; may well differ in a large city without the personal approach.
I had accident insurance through them, and when i did need to claim, hospitalised after a cycling accident, handed in all medical and dental receipts, money in my account in under two weeks of making the claim.

depends upon the circumstances, it is surprising and I would say very embarrassing for the bank, but not as embarrassing as doing the upgrade live and screwing up the account data.

Now if you want to see just how badly you can screw up and keep your banking license... take a butchers at this RBS/ulster bank fuckup

certainly they are far from perfect but compared with the thieving Australian banks there is no comparison, at least here they don't charge me 4 dollars a month, just for keeping my money in an account.

I've had a Kasikorn savings account for years and have never had any problems.

Our company account is with Kasikorn too and that also has been fine.

Started and still run by the Lamsan family. Strong family connections to China. Many other local businesses connected via family relationships. Changed to Kasikorn Bank from Thai Farmer's Bank. Also known as K Bank.
