More than 35,000 contraband motorcycle products worth more than 20 million baht were seized from warehouses in Bangkok yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference at the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on Friday, DSI director-general Suwana Suwanjuta said a total of 35,228 counterfeit motorcycle spare parts and other equipment were confiscated from the two warehouses in the Phetkasem area in Nong Khaem district.
The raid came after Honda Motor Co petitioned the DSI's Bureau of Intellectual Property Crime to say that forged motorbike spare parts and other related products had been smuggled into the country for sale.
Among the fake goods confiscated were more than 30,000 motorcycle spare parts with the Honda trademark, 553 bottles of engine oil also labelled Honda, and 170 items of brake equipment bearing the Brembo trademark.
The raid also found 553 motorcycle batteries with Yuasa trademarks and 1,050 motorcycle spare parts with the Yamaha trademark.
Police apprehended Thanawat Piyalohawat in the raid. Mr Thanawat was charged with possession of contraband goods with the intent to sell, Ms Suwana said.
Manoon Changchamni, a representative from Honda Motor Co and Yuasa Battery Co, said the contraband parts were mostly imported from foreign countries. Mr Manoon also warned of the dangers of using fake products as they do not meet safety standards.
