Indonesia to Execute 2 Australians for Drug Offenses this Month

    JAKARTA—
Two Australian members of the “Bali Nine” drug trafficking ring, arrested in Bali in 2005 for attempting to smuggle 8 kg (18 lb) of heroin to Australia, will be executed this month, a government official said on Friday, ignoring clemency pleas from their home country.

Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan are among eight prisoners due to be executed as President Joko Widodo pursues a hardline approach to drug offenses, drawing criticism from rights activists at home and abroad.

“We received notification from Bali's attorney general yesterday that the two Australians whose clemency has been rejected by the president will be executed in February 2015,” said Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Armanatha Nasir. “We have informed the Australian embassy of this.”

Last month, Indonesia executed six prisoners by firing squad for drug offenses, including five foreigners from Brazil, Malawi, the Netherlands, Nigeria and Vietnam.

Brazil and the Netherlands recalled their ambassadors in Indonesia, while Nigeria summoned Indonesia's ambassador in Abuja.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said last month she would not rule out recalling the country's envoy if the executions go ahead.

Nasir played down potential for diplomatic fallout as a result of the executions.

“This is not a political or diplomatic issue,” Nasir said. “We are just upholding our law by addressing the crimes that these individuals committed. We are not against any particular nation.”

Others in line for execution include citizens of Brazil, France, Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria and the Philippines, a spokesman for the attorney general's office said last week.

Can't really remember, but think these 2 were handlers not mules.
In their mind no risk, mules get done they walk, mules gave them up, mules not facing a bullet.
They played the no answer card, hard men not giving up the next link in the chain, Asian, confess give everyone up, say sorry and you cut your time in 1/2, or miss out on the death penalty.
By the time they realized they were in big shit, their suppliers and buyers had covered their tracks, no deal to be made.
So sad to bad, but the next mules/handlers may think twice.

Joko Widodo: No foreign interference on death penalty

Indonesian President Joko Widodo says foreign nations should not interfere in his country's right to use the death penalty.

He is under pressure from the leaders of Australia, Brazil and France, whose citizens are among 11 people facing death for drug trafficking.

Mr Widodo restated that the executions by firing squad would go ahead.

Earlier, a Jakarta court threw out an appeal by two Australians against their presidential clemency rejections.

Indonesia has some of the world's harshest drug trafficking penalties. It resumed executions in 2013 after a four year moratorium and new leader Mr Widodo is taking a much tougher stance on the issue.

In January, six traffickers - including five foreign nationals - were executed. A second round of executions involving 11 people is expected in coming days.

    'No right to rule'

Mr Widodo told reporters that "there shouldn't be any intervention towards the death penalty because it is our sovereign right to exercise our law".

Several nations have spoken out against the move in recent days, however.

One Brazilian is among the second group and last week, Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff delivered a diplomatic snub by rejecting the credentials of the Indonesian ambassador to Brazil.

France summoned Indonesia's ambassador last week to voice its "extreme concern" over the fate of one of its nationals, Serge Atlaoui.

Australian authorities have also launched a major diplomatic campaign for the lives of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, the ringleaders of the Bali Nine group of drug smugglers.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott caused an uproar last week when he said Indonesia should remember the A$1bn ($0.78bn: £0.5bn) provided in aid by Australia after the 2004 tsunami.

The comments were seen as a threat by the political rank and some of the general public in Indonesia.

Responding to their latest challenge, Judge Hendro Puspito said the court had no jurisdiction to overrule the president's decision to not grant clemency, which is considered the final word in such matters.

"Clemency is the prerogative of the president... the state administrative court has no right to rule on the challenge."

He said they had 14 days to lodge an appeal. Their lawyers said they would pursue that avenue.

Indonesia is the most miserable and two-faced murderous country in this region - whether we look at their attempts at genocide in what they laughingly call Irian Jaya, their slaughter of Christians in Molukko, their heinous acts in east Timor etc.....

Fukc the pricks - - - hypocrisy writ large:

However, there are also Indonesian drug smugglers facing capital punishment overseas, and Indonesia’s recently elected president Joko Widodo has been working hard to save them from execution as well.

As part of his efforts, he’s directed further resources to an already well-funded legal taskforce, which was established in 2011 by former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

This advocacy unit has been successful in achieving clemency for ‘as many as 60’ overseas nationals, according to Professor Tim Lindsey from Melbourne University’s Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam, and Society.

The bastard is pandering to his largely illiterate and half-wit population by standing proud, facing down 'the world' to not interfere with Indonesia's laws . . . while attempting to interfere in others'.

May he eat shit and die!

Asians are hypocrites. We all know that.

The British mule, Lindsay Sandiford, gave up her contacts in Bali but instead of receiving leniency she is to die while the ringleaders, Julian Ponder, well known in Bali for his drug dealing, his bitch Rachel Dougall and friend Paul Beales all received light sentences, presumably in return for considerable sums of bung money. The British Foreign Office have been disgraceful in their lack of any meaningful assistance for Sandiford, a mentally unstable and somewhat inadequate individual, who has been left to rot by the local British consular official who it seems has been cuddling up to Ponder in prison during her frequent visits to see him and with whom she has become greatly enamoured. So much so that her marriage has broken down and she has been short toured.

Really, one couldn't write it and hope to receive any credit given the implausibility but sometimes the British Foreign office reaches parts no other cvunt would consider.

The world is indeed one shitty little place but, all in all, I reserve my utter and complete detestation for the British Foreign Office, a bigger group of nonces, queers, moral reprobates, useless, inept and spastically smug fuckers one couldn't hope to meet.

I have been following this case everyday on an Australian news web sight.

Christ, The AU PM could not of fuked up more if he was paid to do so.

His ramblings towards Indonesia have amounted to nothing except to piss of Indonesia and ensure these two will die.

What a fuking disgrace Abbott is.

Anyway, its good night Irene for these two, maybe early this week.

I've intentionally not stated this simply because its a walk up start that they will be executed.

    Jesus,
Anyone with a quarter of a brain reviewing the crime they committed could gander no other conclusion.

Someone bought up a very good point though.

America has many prisoners on Death row yet Abbott does not go There and comment on them.

Whether they be Australians or not is irrelevant.

    One thing is a given,

That being, the Families of People killed by Heroin addiction will be throwing a massive party once these two are in the ground.

We all make our choices EH.

terry, once again you fail to see the hypocrisy and absurdity of the situation.

the ringleaders have received light sentences whilst the silly old mule, even after cooperating with the authorities, gets the chop.

I remember, many years ago, Bush and Blair had a public meeting, Blair brought up the subject of US capital punishment.
Bush said something like, we follow the wishes of the people, why don't you ask yours.
End of debate, given a vote, UK and Australia would re introduce capital punishment for certain crimes.
No government has a right to tell others what it's people believe, without asking it's people first.
If Australians are so against this sentence they will stop going to Bali on holiday, not going to happen I think.
More likely less tourist, because no one has any money for holidays.

    Tax,

When we are dealing with Asia it is simply retarded to consider doing any sort of drug smuggling what so ever.

The mules are the ones caught world wide, they are executed because they are the ones delivering the drugs and therefore accountable for their actions.

On my first trip to Malaysia in 87 there was a big fuk off sign at the Airport informing me that it was ..... " Death for Dada "

    Meaning death for drugs.

Now, I'm no brain fukin surgeon but I did not have another joint till I was safely back in Perth.

Polls indicate the majority of Australians are happy to see it carried out.
The approaches to the Indos are just pandering to the tabloid press.

Oh shit yes, no question about that what so ever.

Given the vote to the people and we would be offing Gary Shitter next week.
I'm no dodger but you get my drift EH.

The only debate being that the Death penalty gives the prisoner a free ticket home.

A life in Jail is much harder especially in Asia.

And you know this how, not followed the story, so don't know who gave up who.
Deals are make by giving up big players, if she was just mule, she had nothing to bargain with.
Just how it works, met a guy who got 25 years, served one day, then witness protection and gone. He had information to sell, contract on his head was 1 mil US.

Been lots of poles over the years, Australia is pro capital punishment for certain crimes.
Child sex killers, rape murders, mass murderers etc
Drug traffickers may be not, but lets ask them.

Not normally big on wiki but although lengthy a pretty good write up. I had no idea this has been going on for near 10 years. Some of the accused appealed and received lesser sentences. Whether one believes the reductions were justified or not is irrelevant. Like it or not, they broke the laws of Indonesia and were judged in Indonesian courts.

The 2 awaiting execution were sentence to death 16 Feb 2006. All appeals upheld the initial death sentence. Obviously many folks here and in Aus are upset President Joko Widodo's refused to grant clemency. Why should he? It's not a secret drug trafficking can carry the death sentence in Indonesia. The "Bali 9" must have been aware of the law. The decided to break it and got caught and sentenced. Maybe they decided it was worth the risk to make a few bucks and in the end would serve some jail time at worst. Apparently they didn't factor in the risk of there being a new sheriff in town who won election based in part on a strong anti drug platform,

The thing I really like about the Australian society at large is that they are not influenced by Politicians, political wankers or the do gooders in our society.

The vast majority of Australians recognize right from wrong and do not do,
" I did not mean to do it group".

Fuk your shit up and face the consequences.

I salute the average Australian and piss on the Politician wankers.

They only do Politics so they can avoid actually working.
