Russian Tourist Attacked For 'Not Buying Watch'

CHONBURI — Police in Pattaya are searching for a vendor who reportedly assaulted a Russian tourist who refused to buy a watch from his stall.

Police say the 22-year-old tourist was attacked with a knife at around 10 pm last night less than 50 metres away from Mueang Pattaya Police Station.

The tourist has knife wounds across his abdomen and is in critical condition, acording to medical workers at Pattaya Memorial Hospital.

According to the victim's sister, the vendor became angry after her brother decided the watches were counterfeit and refused to buy one. When her brother told the vendor to go away, the vendor reportedly attacked him with a knife and fled the scene, witnesses say.

Pol.Lt. Jakkrit Chantakam, an officer at Mueang Pattaya Police Station, told reporters that police are checking CCTVs in the area to identify and locate the suspect. He also warned tourists in Pattaya to be wary of vendors who may become aggressive if tourists refuse to buy their wares.

"We will find the perpetrator and bring him to justice as soon as possible, because this incident damages the image of Pattaya as a tourist destination," Pol.Lt. Jakkrit said.

Pattaya, a seaside resort town east of Bangkok, is well-known for its seedy nightlife and high rate of crimes against foreigners.

Last week police arrested a vendor who allegedly attacked a 60-year-old Swiss tourist in Pattaya who refused to buy his souvenirs.

Not because he stabbed someone, yes.

This pattern of violent behavior from so called men over any perceived minor insult or rebuke is why I've given serious consideration to carrying some kind of self defense weapon here.

These effeminate losers who really think they are too special to be put in their place can be dangerous to foreigners used to dealing with adults.

    pattaya again i see.

normally it is the nepalis who walk around selling watches, and they seem to have a remarkable capacity for heroically absorbing abuse without response from those they pester.

i would imagine that this was a thai vendor, and that the russian was, quite justifiably, rude, loud and dismissive of the little turds demands and the little turd responded in the only way he knew how to this assault on his pride and integrity. by pulling a knife and attempting to kill him.

but these days, if you annoy people, question their beliefs or behaviour or in any way offend, you must expect to be attacked, its perfectly acceptable.

god knows what would have happened if boris had tried to pen a quick cartoon of the vendor.

    Yep, that's about it EH.

Nasty loud rude Russian giving the Thai a bit of " what for " and the Thai cut him up.

Oh well, must be a polite tourist and not a fookin coont.

At the end of the day its utter bullshit that Thai's cut up tourists simply because they refuse to buy their stuff.

The Thai's cut them up because the Tourist has been rude aggressive and out of order.

    Fuk Em EH.

The problem with these itinerant pedlars is that they actually consider themselves to be a) human beings and b) working in a proper job.

Quite pitiful really. They really are the equivalent of human trash and have no purpose whatsoever except perhaps as, say, live targets for the shooting range patrons at Tiffanys.

Obviously, the Ivan was somewhat dismissive of the creature in eschewing his products but receiving a slashing does mark a new low even for these animals.

Still, it does give us an opportunity to listen to the police trotting out their usual bilge about protecting the reputation of this shitty little country. Are they not aware that it is precisely the same misplaced pride in their turd of a country that also provoked the vendor into his bovinely stupid actions?

Pattaya is a commercial sinkhole full of festering greed, crime, base carnality and corruption. The stench of Thai hypocrisy is at its most potent here and is every bit as repellent as the stink of shit and piss that pervades the air, choked with diesel fumes and the screeches of ten thousand, bandy legged, pug nosed Isaan hookers.

I quite like it here. The human condition as it truly is.

    Yes I agree Thegent,

Pattaya should be nuked, its the arsehole of the world, its inhabited by the worst of the farang and the worst of the Thai.

They feed of each other, its a shame for the long term expat who moved here many eons ago when it was a tad different but today its truly fuked.

Actually, it is simply not Thailand and should be treated as such.

I fart in its general direction.

Whatever happens there I do not give a flying fuk.

I quite enjoy having Pattaya a 40 minute drive away. Keeps the flies away from my table, yet handy for shopping, entertainment, etc.
A bit like a nasty scab; unpleasant, rather sordid, but fun to keep having a pick at now and again.

Oh dear, Terry, you have missed the point.

You wish to " nuke " Pattaya but then you may as well nuke the world. Pattaya is the world but without any pretence. Houellebecq was spot on in his book, " Atomised ", there are no illusions left when you find yourself in Pattaya. It is the last stop on the highway to a perdition we all will confront and as such it should be enjoyed. Humanity as a gargoyle spouting billows of effluvia but sprinkled with glitter dust and tinsel.

At least the air is better here than in Bangkok and in my little oasis life is good.

and in my little oasis life is good.
and in reality, that is all that matters.

after the charms of this country have worn off we, like most of the thais that surround us, choose to exist in our own little self contained bubbles of blinkered indifference, only engaging in social intercourse with natives of our own choosing and only when absolutely necessary.

life here is relatively easy for falangs, we can don our social invisibility cloaks and flit into and out of situations as we choose. nothing much is expected of us other than footing the bill.

Economy is actually still robust. The Thai currency is doing quite well against foreign currencies isn't it? In fact, the Thai economy is in better shape than most of the European economies.

OK then, what about this point Thegent.

One minute you tell us you hate the Doorman at Gulliver's on Sukumvit simply because he would not let you in carrying a butchers shop and now you tell us you love living in Pattaya because its a friggin Oasis.

No it's not Thegent, Pattaya is a fookin cesspit where the worlds scum move too so they can be surrounded by their own kind.

    Anyway,

You are bullshitting us EH, you live in Sukumvit just down the road from Gullivers in your new Condo.

Actually, here in Pattaya, adjacent to the Amari Tavern by the Sea on Beach Road, we have a branch of Gulliver's. This is a fine establishment which sports no gibbon- like doormen and their policy on Farang entering the premises with their comestibles is liberal and rooted in common sense. The distaff and I are recognised as regulars and accorded due respect befitting our superior class and status which is readily understood to be way above their station.

The Thai food is excellent there as indeed is the ambiance and setting, attracting a decent clientele without the usual flock of whores and their lantern- jawed, slap- headed and tattooed untermensch from the Antipodes, as seems to be the customer base now in their Sukhumvit 5 branch. I gather the chef came down years ago from Bangkok to start it up and has remained ever since. The prices are high for Pattaya and they do not have happy hours which keeps the Euro trash and Russians out.

Anyway, back on theme, Terry ,we are all turds swirling down the pan of our own creation into that great sewer which awaits all turds. The only difference between we Northern hemisphere chaps and you Antipodeans is that you swirl in a different direction.

in other words, they only spit in customers food once rather than twice.

    Fuk who?

The tourist refusing to buy a fake watch off a lunatic Thai? Or the lunatic Thai carrying a knife and trying to sell counterfeit watches and stabbing people when he's told to bugger off?

Do you stab people who tell you to bugger off after refusing to buy your fake merchandise?
