The long-serving Central Investigation Bureau commander Pol Lt-General Pongpat Chayapun and deputy Pol Maj-General Kowit Vongrongrot were removed from their posts following an urgent transfer order last night.
The Bureau chief's post will be taken over by assistant police chief Pol Lt-General Prawuth Thawornsiri. Royal Thai Police chief Pol General Somyot Poompanmuang did not provide any explanations about the transfer order, which he reportedly signed late yesterday.
Somyot later said that Pongpat's order was special, as he is regarded as an expert, though he did not elaborate.
Both Pongpat and Kowit are required to report to the Royal Thai Police's Operations Centre at 10am today. Neither of them showed up at the centre yesterday.
The four police generals were all classmates in their pre-military academy years.
