PATHUM THANI — A 19-year-old man was killed and four others injured in a brawl at an alternative-rock concert that didn’t conduct weapons screenings in Khlong Luang district early Thursday.

Srawut Jit-o-larn died and four of his friends, ages 17-19, were hurt when they were attacked with sharp objects at the Paradox concert on a field near the condominium building that collapsed in August in tambon Khlong 6, police said.

Srawut's friend, Tawan Lek-kla, 18, who was slashed in the ankle, said his group had a argument with another about a dozen teenagers they had never met, but both sides were able to settle it.

But another dispute broke out shortly afterward, escalating into a fight in which the opposite group took out knives to attack their rivals amid hundreds of panicked audience members. They then fled the scene.

Srawut was stabbed three times in the chest and back and died on the spot.

Mr Tawan said the concert organizers allowed him and his friends to enter the premises without searching for weapons on them.
