The victims were a 23-year-old woman from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and a 24-year-old man from Jersey, in the Channel Islands, according to the Thai authorities.
Two British tourists murdered on Thai holiday island
It's a heinous crime for sure but to call out Thailand as inhabited by a bunch of savages is totally Retarded.
Hundreds of Thousands of backpackers have passed through Koh Tao since 1987 with little more than a Diving certificate and a hangover to show for it.
Fuk me, don't let your kids come to Australia, we have mad fukers there called Ivan Milat who hunted and killed Backpackers for a giggle.
This is bad news for Tao but in general its a fun safe Island, much safer than any Western country that's for sure.
Jesus, some of you wankers expect Thailand to be perfect.
Further more, the locals who rely on Backpackers for their business will not be happy about this and they will be trying their best to hunt down the killers.
Not easy as they could of simply disappeared back to their fishing boats if they where off shore fisherman.
Travelling with a somewhat BF?
Goes to a beach party, gets wasted on buckets, hooks up with another bloke.
Having a shag on the beach and found by also wasted somewhat BF who flips out?
CSI will continue after this break.
Thailand is a dangerous country and farang tourists are more at risk here than elsewhere. This desire for equivalence with the civilised world is silly and redolent of sappy Thaivisa Thaiphiles and Lonely Planeteers getting in touch with their inner twat.
Incidentally, it seems from other reports the deceased chap had two friends, one of whom had left the island shortly after the murder on the first available ferry and is bound for Bangkok. The other man remained and was discovered to have cuts on his hands but these have been discounted and he is not a suspect. Doubtless the other chap was/is unaware of events and is simply on his itinerary but the BiB do like to jump to conclusions.....
Koh Tao lives and breaths tourism, in fact the place would be fucked if tourism died.
The diving industry is massive there and draws in young people world wide.
It actually certifies the most Diving students world wide outside of Cairns Australia.
There is the occasional rape but murder is very rare.
Most serious crime I know off has been committed by Fisherman who overnight around the Island and slip in over night.
The locals do not fuk with the Tourists, they do not want to kill the Golden Goose.
Petty theft and the occasional assault does happen but murder is not the norm for Tao.
Fukk knows what happened there but RIP to the pair of them and I hope whoever did the nasty deed suffers the full arm of the law then gets the full arm of the people he will meet in Jail.
RIP to the pair of them and condolences to their families.
I would post pictures but life's too short.
No surprises but it is interesting to note that this terrible murder didn't even make the 11 o'clock news tonight on Channel 7.
Such a grievous event in the heart of their tourist industry and it doesn't merit a mention. Can one imagine the coverage if two Japanese surfers were found in such circumstances off Newquay beach?
Typical really but one does find their indifference to suffering of others not of their own difficult to stomach.
Mind you, Iraq, Syria, the Ukraine and any other current world event of any note didn't get a mention either.
No wonder the Thai are such pig ignorant clods.
Saw it on the News in the U.K. not mainstream, CNN
Got the feeling Police are looking for a Farang witness.
Thais and Farangs kill differently.
RIP to both.

Police suspect foreign workers in murder of two British tourists in Koh Tao
The chief of Surat Thani police said he suspected Myanmar workers in the area are responsible for the murder of two British tourists on Sairee beach Sunday night.
The bodies of the two tourists were found Monday morning with serious wounds on the head of the man and on the face of the woman.
A blood-stained hoe was found nearby.
The officer, Pol Maj-Gen Kiatipong Kaosam-arng said he believed the murderers are still in the island and that they might be Myanmar workers.
He said two to three men assaulted the man first and then turned to the woman with intent to rape her.
It was possibly that she resisted and then was struck to death with a hoe which the police found left at the scene.
He said investigation and examination of surveillance cameras in the vicinity showed a man with Asian look ran out of the scene.
He said the police would send the body of The woman to the Police General Hospital for autopsy and see whether she was raped or not.
Another theory of the murder might also be from jealousy because the girl was good looking and had many boyfriends coming in contact, he said.
But he said he put the weight on the foreign workers to be the most probable theory as they might be aroused by the couple having sex on the sand and then turned to assault the man with intent to rape the girl.
He said the couple lied dead wearing no clothes.
The police have gained some clue and was confident to make arrest soon, he added.

it is sad that they died
but if she was not a pretty blonde girl the international coverage would be a lot less
Facile comments from the usual buffoons are inevitable, given their impoverished intellect.
Just watched the midday news and it seems the police have apprehended one local Thai islander in possession of a handgun but so far he ain't admitting anything.
All the hallmarks of local youths acting as voyeurs then satisfying their base instincts which they sought to conceal in the time honoured way of these savages by killing their victims.
Could happen anywhere in Thailand, and, unfortunately, does. And it isn't even the high season yet.
Poor kids and another two families destroyed all because of the ghastly savagery of Thai youths without any moral compass beyond innate primitivism.
Agree.
The Thai cops were immediately in line with CSI/TD, which said the Burmese would be offered up first.
Nice Thai twist in trying to put it on a foreign backpacker who had the misfortune to depart the island on the early morning ferry. That Thai effort was picked up by the Aussie papers.
I agree that it is likely a couple of local lads. If so, I suspect on a small island which depends almost totally on tourism, someone will give them up shortly. They'll be stupid enough that they will just have to tell someone about their actions.
Its big news in England, third item on BBC R4 news after Syria and Scotland, with the usual caveat reminding listeners thst Thailand is quite safe for tourists even though attacks against foreigners do occur in beach resorts.
Looks like the poor couple were "living the dream", i.e. fucking on a tropical beach, when along came one or two predatory Asian males who wished to exercise their droit de seigneur and were miffed when it was refused with sadly predictable results.
As others have said, it can happen almost anywhere. Rotherham springs to mind as an example.
^I still wonder at the ignorance of the male and female tourist who were doing a bike trip through India, sleeping in the open in their little tent. The results were predictable - he killed, she raped and killed.
Lot of savages out in the world - it ain't all a picture postcard.
It should also bd noted that the Police Generals comment that she may have had many " contacts with other men", in other words, she brought it on herself, just reinforces my view that where women are concerned, Asian men are neanderthal apes.
Prob fishermen hopped up on yaa baa
But that's the thing Tax, it doesn't happen elsewhere in the world with such frequency as Thailand. If one were to include the entire world, then, yes it does occur but that isn't the point here.
The number of farang tourists raped, raped and murdered or just plain murdered in Thailand over the past 15 years exceeds, by far and away, the number of tourists attacked in such a manner in say, France, Britain, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada etc, etc.
Factor into the death equation the numbers killed in road accidents, poisoning, electrocution and bizarre infections then Thailand must be way ahead of the pack in terms of danger.
Glibly referring to other countries etc without qualification is facile.
Citing Rotheram is idiotic in this context since indigenous crime e.g. the thousands of rapes perpetrated by Thai on Thai annually, is not part of my thesis nor is it germane to the incident under current debate. Although one has to acknowledge that the crime rate here is certainly indicative of the Thai propensity for violence in the arrangement of their personal affairs.
But you've just listed all developed, Western countries and compared them to a developing Asian one.
How is it you aren't capable of understanding that a developing country won't be anything like a Western developed one?
Do you sometimes eat an apple and then point out that it doesn't taste anything like an orange?
I thought the kids were killed with a garden hoe, not shot with a handgun. I mean, if he had a handgun, wouldn't that be the logical implement of death, rather than a hoe, watering can, or secateurs.
A friend from school plus his girlfriend were beaten to death with shovels by Nepali workers while backpacking around Europe. His killers got off due to some legal error.
