And the Gent, its like some bizarre contest between them to see who can come across more as being a bitter coffin-dodging Pom who only gets out of bed to whine about something each day. Thailand is full of these worthless fucks (Thai Visa would fold without them) but despite all their complaining about everything in Thailand, they never seem to leave

there are none so blind as those who will not see.

do you condone the corruption and nepotism that ensured that face rather than justice prevailed when 2 foreigners were murdered and 2 foreigners were convicted and sentenced to death, whilst all evidence pointed to the murderer as being a local man with strong local and regional connections.

you are like so many others here, lacking the intelligence to realise that you have been blinded by the shiny seductive veneer of tawdry superficiality that covers everything and hides the reality of the rather nasty underbelly of deceit, deception and duplicity that drives the country.

exactly the response i expected from an idiot like yourself. blinkered, unquestioning and accepting. like so many others.

if anything is to be done then it is up to the locals and the authorities there, and of course why would they. its only foreigners who are affected.
and so long as foreigners are willing to turn up there to be extorted and made fools of why should anything change. only when their cash cow dies will change be implemented.

but i wouldnt expect you to understand that. you dont speak the language, you dont read the thai newspapers, you probably dont know many thais and those you do know are probably stubbornly patriotic and would not want to poison the mind of a foreigner with anything resembling reality, so you are, like so many expats, smiling, receptive, grateful and happy to be fed, watered and constantly and uncritically complimented.

Its a middle country economically at best. I know you think western countries have less corruption because it stems from the goodness of our hearts. I'd like to see how corrupt our countries would be with a weak 3rd world currency. Instead of these insanlely overvalued imperial currencies.

The family of a British backpacker killed in Thailand have welcomed a decision to commute his murderers' death sentences to life in prison.

Two Burmese workers were sentenced to death in 2015, after being found guilty of killing David Miller, 24, of Jersey, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, of Norfolk.

Their sentences have been reviewed to commemorate King Vajiralongkorn's birthday and to show his "clemency".

Mr Miller's family said they were "grateful" to the Thai king.

The bodies of Mr Miller and Miss Witheridge were found on a beach on the Thai island of Koh Tao in 2014.

Lin and Phyo (also known as Win Zaw Htun) were sentenced to death for the murder of Mr Miller and the murder and rape of Ms Witheridge.

In a statement, Ian and Sue Miller, who have campaigned against the death penalty, said: "We are grateful to His Majesty the King of Thailand for showing his clemency to the murderers of our son David.

"Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo finally admitted to the rape and murder of Hannah Witheridge and the murder of our son."

"The final admittance of their guilt has allowed this act of clemency to become possible," they continued.

The family said it had brought to a close a "lengthy and disturbing period" where activists on social media had attempted to influence justice in Thailand and public opinion elsewhere.

"But in the end the truth has been revealed," the couple added.

    <snip>

"We hope that these two murderers will now spend a very, very long time in jail where they cannot harm other families and will have time to reflect on the consequences of their acts."

They were forced to admit guilt or be executed so I don't give much for their admission.

Why do the backpackers parents believe it all ? It's not as easy for the authorities as people think. These islands are run by informal patronage networks.

They're old and grieving and presumably know little about Thailand.

Any small comfort they can find will be grasped at.

It really means nothing either way as far as the guilt of these two are concerned.

The parents don't know the intricacies of the country like you clearly do.

British tourists come forward about being attacked on Koh Tao in 2013

Zaw and Wai were arrested soon after the killings. Some say the investigation was accelerated in an effort to gain back tourist confidence and keep visitors coming to the island. Numerous activists, criminologists, and others have spoken out against the conviction, saying the evidence was bungled.

Just a year before, British tourists Sam Venning and Carla Bartel survived an attack on the same beach. Sam, who was 22 at the time, was talking to Carla, who was 20, on the beach when 2 men wearing V for Vendetta masks attacked them, hitting Sam in the head with a rock.
Sam and Carla came forward to Thai officials after the killings to help with the investigation, but say no one got back to them. Sam says he had emailed the Thai Embassy in London, but no one contacted him. Carla says she contacted the UK Foreign Commonwealth Office who then passed her on to the UK National Crime Agency. She was told that the information was sent to Thai police, but officers did not follow up with her.

And what about those puncture wounds on the male victim's body, which coincidentally matched the sharks tooth ring worn by one of the initial suspects, who is still running free ?

The evidence was bungled perfectly by the people that bungled it, to get the result they needed.

The military junta leader of the country publicly declared that he examined the evidence, and that those charged are guilty, before the trial begun.

That alone would probably be enough to get the case thrown out in proper countries.

The sister of a British backpacker murdered in Thailand died in a “double tragedy” while nine weeks pregnant, an inquest has heard.

“No one knows” what caused the death of Laura Daniels, 30, despite extensive investigations, her family was told on Wednesday.

She died at Southampton General Hospital on September 16 2019 – five years after her sister Essex University student Hannah Witheridge was found dead on a beach in Thailand.

A post-mortem examination was unable to ascertain a cause of death for Mrs Daniels, a paediatric nurse who lived in Great Yarmouth.

Her death while pregnant was a “double tragedy”, area coroner Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp said as she recorded an open conclusion.

Speaking at the inquest in Winchester, she said: “Given the post-mortem findings it is very difficult indeed to come to any conclusion other than open and that is because no one knows quite why Laura died when she did.

“No one knows, and that must be one of the hardest things for families and friends – for a young person to die and for despite all the investigation, all the inquest process we end up simply not knowing.”

The inquest, which began last month and finished on Wednesday, heard that Mrs Daniels had a complex medical history and had undergone numerous surgeries and treatments at various hospitals over the years.

On September 16 2019 she was found unresponsive in hospital shortly after speaking to staff and was pronounced dead.

I'm starting to like this guy. Everybody in Thailand and the world knows the two Burmese men are in prison as scapegoats. This guy is shoving it in Thailand's face. I hope it does some good, but I doubt it.

Suzanne Buchanan, the past owner and editor of Samui Times finally has her book "The Curse Of The Turtle" on the Koh Tao murders out. Barely into it and already I have had several "holy crap" moments. This is a must read for anyone wanting to learn more about how Thailand is behind the veil. She spent a lot of time in Thailand and on Koh Tao and her perspective is well respected. Here is an image from a few pages in....
