Police to request help from FBI in DNA testing

Police will request the help of the United State's Federation Bureau of Investigation in testing semen found on the body of a female British backpacker who was brutally murdered on the resort island of Koh Tao this week.

The DNA testing technology in Thailand could only identify whether it was male or female semen, said deputy police chief General Somyot Pumpunmuang, while the FBI had "sophisticated technology".

"We will ask the FBI to help identify the DNA in the semen we found - whether it belonged to an Asian or European," he said Friday.

Even for Thailand, I'm sure something was lost in translation there.
he probably meant mitochondrial DNA and has no idea what the lab techs explained to him.

Perhaps he was referring to the mucoid secretions of the Bartholins glands

Have they taken a single DNA sample from a Thai yet?? Only asking as I've read they've taken samples from migrant workers and farangs but for some reason they seem to have forgot to test the largest population of males on the island...

I think they might have a chance of catching the culprit(s)...It's interesting how that little ciggie butt just might help, after all...

I figure a few people saw something happening at different times and places, before, maybe during, and after the killings...

It seems too high profile for this to just evaporate...

Somehow I don't think the "rich card" is gonna work this time...

There was a story circulating about Miller being involved in some kind of confrontation with a male staff member at a beachfront bar in the hours before the murders. Like many other things that have popped up, this has never been established as factual. You never really know which stories are true and which are not. Seems the bar staff have all be DNA sampled and cleared, but no mention of any staff missing in action.

There were supposed to have been three butts found together on the beach near the crime scene. One with lipstick on it...and as we are now told, one with two DNA samples from semen matching that found in the victims body...actually from two different people?

The conclusion which appears to have been drawn is that two people shared the one cigarette----an LM brand. No further mention of the other two butts, which if they were all together as originally reported, would suggest at least three people were there.

After all this time it is now reported that Thailand does not have the facilities to distinguish between Asian and European semen...and we have the additional twist of female semen being introduced. So, away we go to the FBI forensics department where all mysteries are quickly revealed....including the determination that semen is male or female...as well as Asian or European. At least that could eliminate a few billion people eh?

The poor BIB are being condemned and castigated all over the place....but this is maybe not as much of an open and shut case as we may have been inclined to think.

In the world of TV crime shows, we know that even the most complex cases are solved in an hour or so by teams of gender and ethnically balanced geniuses equipped with 22nd century technology, who prompt each other along with flashes of inspiration, spoken one line at a time and distributed evenly between the team members.

The local BIB on the other hand, have to plod along trying to cope with their overall lack of any real serious CI experience as well as being hampered by late 20th century technology instead of all that cool shit the FBI has.

This crime could well have been a random act committed by people unknown to the victims. The place was saturated with booze and drugs so motive becomes a bit harder to nail down.

Some suspects close to the victims were rounded up, questioned and released. Normal procedure to process and eliminate some of the obvious possibilities, before widening the search.

Despite the early elimination of a particular farang person of interest, there are still rumours circulating that some odd things had been going on between some of these people and all was not sweetness and light....but like so much of the stuff that circulates on the internet it could be total nonsense.

There are clues and evidence that can in time lead to the culprit(s); but given the location and circumstances, that may take a bit more time than the 45-60 minutes allocated to crime bustin on the TV channels...which is where most of the commentators on the expat forums acquire their expertise and experience.

^Bloody bloody pants are popping up everywhere...And some are bloodier than others...

My understanding is that the two DNA samples are from one butt, but the lipstick was on a different butt. There was a total of three butts in the early reports.

We may be getting our butts all mixed up... along with miscellaneous pairs of jeans and various red herrings .....

Now it's been announced that the somchai seen running past the CCTV camera was wearing shorts belonging to one of the victims???...and a pair of pants found at the murder site may belong to somchai who may have become confused in the dark and put on the wrong pants.....

All available resources are being focused on finding somchai, who has now become the new prime suspect....

One quick call to the US Embassy in Bangkok and the F.B.I. came rolling to the rescue...Entire block on wireless road devoted to various covert US op.'s, NSA, CIA, bla,bla,bla...get arrested for photo taking in that area as well...
