It's understandable though Jacky.
The family are looking for blood and these guys will do.
I'm sure nothing would be different if it was your brother who was topped down there.
I agree.
Whilst I have every sympathy with the families of both victims, I do agree with you about the Miller family. Whilst the girls family have maintained a dignified silence, the Miller's come over as baying for blood, and seem to rather like the limelight.
Added to which, there is the awful spectre of the Met and FCO doing a deal with the Thais at the highest level to fob both families off with some clap-trap about a 'fair trial' etc etc.
There are so many loose ends in this case that someone is going to trip over one of them and fall flat on his face.
I don't think the Thais have the slightest notion of what this 'verdict' will do to the country's reputation or tourism over the coming months. The shit will definitely hit the fan for months, if not years, to come.
:spin:
Johnathan Heade has a good take on the case on the BBC
I'll read that in a mo', but in the meantime, I can see why you say the Miller's are delusional from the Beeb article on their website -
'Speaking outside court, Mr Miller's brother Michael said: "We believe the result today represents justice for David and Hannah.
"It is our opinion that the evidence against Wai Phyo and Zaw Lin is absolutely overwhelming. They raped to satisfy their selfish desires and murdered to cover up that fact. They have shown no remorse during the trial." Er, probably because they don't speak English or too much Thai and were told by their lawyers to keep schtum ...
He said the Thai police investigation was "not the so-called shambles it was made out to be. We believe that, after a difficult start, the Royal Thai police conducted a methodical and thorough investigation." Well, mate, if you believe that, you'll believe anything - don't forget, this is Thailand, not the cosy UK with its myth of proper policing with no corruption or under the table deals ...
He added: "We hope the campaigners who have relentlessly promoted this case will respect the process of law and the decision of the court.
"[David] was hacked down from behind, dragged into the sea and left to die. That will live with us forever," he said. He also paid tribute to relatives of Miss Witheridge for the "horrors they are also enduring with such dignity".
"Our lives have been changed forever."
Er, so have the Witheridge's, but they have kept their own counsel and not come over as gullible fools who readily believe the Thai police, or the Met (who are no shining examples of truthfulness as many a court case has shown.

Thais really can be the most convincing of liars to those that have no idea just how slimy and sneaky they can be.
Someone did do it
and someone knows who - but most of the island couldn't care less, they just wanted things to get get back to normal ,which they did after a few days .
The 2 Burmese have admitted to being at the scene around the time of the murders
being too drunk to remember anything.....
their littler was found on the beach...
a discarded phone tossed into the bushes near their house....
don't blame me if they are prime suspects and have a shaky defense.
If they truly didn't do it then maybe its time they started talking about what they do know ,
oh but, there's an appeal first , so that's not going to happen.
I'd just like to praise the family members for traveling from the uk to see the trial
Very brave of them .
Sad day for Thailand. From the Guardian....
"Many Britons live on Koh Samui, the largest and most developed island in the archipelago, where the trial has been held in a fortress-like court surrounded by palms. They say privately that it becomes apparent fairly quickly that the islands are run my mafia-type families.
Koh Tao, much smaller than Koh Samui, is known as a laid-back diving spot and still hosts infamously drug-fuelled full moon parties. Cocaine and crystal meth – known here as “crazy drug” – are easy to find and their trade is controlled by families on the island, locals say.
These families are powerful enough to make deals with the local authorities, residents say, and are also seen as a longstanding stabilising force on the tropical islands far from the central government in Bangkok.
“In some places the police and organised crime are uncomfortably close together. So I wouldn’t be surprised if certain directions in the investigations are either not being investigated or even outright dismissed,” Saksith said.
Few Thai media organisations reported from the court for much of the trial. One translator employed by Sky News said she was “warned off” helping journalists by the Thai “mafia” after working for them for one day."

The whole country is run by thai mafia.
All bar girls are slaves.
Folk have to grovel to the higher.

The complicity is evident in the timing of the verdict, the UK populace for the next 3 days are on a news blanket shutdown for xmas. Doesn't matter to Thais what day of the year it is, today's announcement was for British non consumption. :(
The BBC and newspapers have it on there sites.
Not much on the Thai news about it.
Jesus christ,
This must be the worst post on the subject to date.
The Thais know that this murder will not mean one fuks worth of difference to Thailand's Tourism.
Koh Tao has been back in full swing for many months and Thailand's tourism is off the planet with punters swarming in.
This is just another murder scenario, has happened before and will again.
Happens in all countries.
One could be in America and caught up in one of their weekly mass murders.
What surprises me is how all the people shit caning the Police and court system are not being subject to there Slander laws.
Not saying they should not but wondering why the defamation laws don't apply in this case.
^
Jesus Mate,
Coming from a strange South African fuk like you I'm quite flattered. :)
There are 100s, 1000s maybe `10s of 1000s who have been ripped off
one way or another, conned,scammed,disappeared.
Loads of folk. Some so fooked up by it that they jump off a balcony.
Met one dude who after saving for over a year for a long stay
lost everything on his first day.Passport. had some traveller chqs. around 2007.
Plenty of shit happens there.
Happens in many countries granted but it seems to be big and organised in Thailand.
You could sit and watch guys being set-up on Khosan Rd.
And all around that area. Thai guys preying on white girls also.
Not all smiles. Only when they work. Those flashing white teeth are a big asset.
Mostly cowboy town country. Over rated.
Got to agree with you there BB. In 2006 ish Terry used to get some shit from other members and I used to jump to support him. Things now seem to be the opposite and he give others shit. Comeback the old Terry.Quote:

All over and done with, on to the next rape and murder.

Oh Ok then,
Since that sterling peace of advice has been offered up by the worst poster on Teak Door I'll take it on board. :)
