    Reshuffle bulges with 1092 Generals

This year's military reshuffle which takes effect in three weeks will result in the
appointments of 1,092 generals, more than ever before.

Thailand's total military strength is 550,000 men and women, of whom about 245,000 are reserve or paramilitary.

The United States, by contrast, has a total military and paramilitary strength of 2.2 million, spread worldwide. A US law limits the number of active generals and flag-rank officers to a maximum of 652, although there are almost always fewer.

Chinese media reported last year that the People's Liberation Armed Forces have 191 officers of general's rank.

So in other words, Thailand will have more Generals than America and China combined !

Talk about ' jobs for the boys '

Still, they will probably be needing a lot more to cope with the rampant corruption and nepotism coming Thailands way.

Well, at least it's good 'ol fashion corruption and at least they keep protesters off the streets so I guess it's a good thing really.

Yep. Next year it will look like this :

Thailand's total military strength is 550,000 men and women, of whom about 549,000 are Generals or reserve Generals.

If I were a Thai , I would open a business selling golfing equipment. A definite winner in a time of recession .

"Hub of Generals" ought to be a good selling point for TAT. Hope all that brass and tin gets recycled someday.

Which coup ? There have been so many you'll need to be more specific .

I'm guessing that the system here in Thailand is a bit different.

In most countries, officers are promoted solely on merit, with fewer and fewer openings the further you go so by the time someone reaches the top, they have a proven track record of excellence.

In Thailand, I'm guessing officers are promoted by class or time in service rather than actually EARNING their rank by outperforming their peers.

I'd sure like to know how much of the budget for payroll the almost 1100 generals take up compared to the budget for payroll for the enlisted personnel.

If there are 550,000 with only half of the generals in combat commands, that would mean they command somewhere around a thousand soldiers, which would be commanded by a lieutenant colonel in most other armies. That would also mean that the other 600 generals are HQ queens, lackeys of other generals or busy showing up to help legitimize American con men in court.

I'm pretty sure though it's not going to be anytime soon that Thais complain about the bounty of generals reaping our tax money though.....

Many [more than the given] are ashamed.
    But keep it to themselves.

Not proper to speak negatively or critically towards the authority figures.

As a general rule, you should not generalise, too much generalisation leads to more general rules, that generally generates general rules , generalising generations.

At least this lurch back into the realm of Ruritania has put paid to all those silly debates upon " Thailand - whither democracy? " that prevailed here for so long.

At last we have incontrovertible evidence for even the dimmest of witted that Thailand is, was, and no doubt shall be, nothing more than a playground for generals.

Of course, Dan/ Zooheekock will let us know the latest word from the boys and girls of the social media giving us all the real lowdown of " what people are really thinking ".

    Har, har.
