Bhumjaithai party proposes death penalty for vote buying and selling

Bhumjaithai party proposes death penalty for vote buying and selling

    in Politics | July 14, 2014 (1,108 views)
A core member of the Bhumjaithai party has proposed that buying and selling votes should get death sentence.
In voicing his opinion to the problems of vote buying and selling that has undermined the Thai democracy for several decades, the former Nakhon Ratchasimna MP said the existing laws must be amended to increase maximum penalties on vote buying and selling.

Boonchong Wongtrasirat, also a former deputy interior minister in the Samak Sundravej governmen, said politician who is ruled guilty of buying votes not only must be banned for life in politics, but also must get the maximum penalty for the crime, while the party involved be dissolved and also banned forever in politics.

Convicted politician must either get life imprisonment sentence or death penalty for the crime, he said.

For people who sell their votes to crooked politicians, they also should get either life imprisonment or death sentence, he said.

Such maximum penalty will effectively stamp out vote buying and selling from this country once and for all, he said.

Bhumjaithai or Thai Pride Party, was founded on November 5, 2008.

A couple of high profile executions of blatantly corrupt politicians, military, police and civil servants is all it would take to eradicate corruption in this country.

Televise the trial and the verdict, prime time, and then march them out the back and shoot them.

    Job done.

But of course it will never happen, too many fingers in the pie here.

I have the feeling that might side line a large percentage of the Thai population.

My word - this would wipe out 50% of the population of Thailand.

Should it include buying votes with populist unsustainable policies as well?

Another clever ploy to stamp out democracy. Likely to have the same evidence standards for conviction as LM. All it will take is a wild accusation, and one can wipe out his enemies. Better accuse everybody else before they accuse you.

At least you can't convict the present government of this sin.

Prayuth should implement this idea immediately. Wipe out every politician in Thailand and then run for election.

Sweet irony- a BJT politician proposing the death penalty for vote buying.

That only tells you one thing- it clearly didn't work for them (as the unofficial, unannounced results of the last annulled election confirm). Actually 'vote buying' doesn't work, full stop- the Thai are well clued in on the secret ballot. But discernible policies do.

Yet, such suggestions or enacted legal mandate might get their attention - politician, mafia middlemen, and everyday voter alike.

Not that any of this shit would ever be enforced or looked upon selectively.

Death might be a little extreme for bribery, but prison time and heavy fines might adequate.

All in all - just Thai rhetoric and silliness.

    Executioner.

An Executor carries out (executes) a will.

They are just showing their support for the junta, trying to get their nose back at the trough.

"It's all the politician's fault, the junta are great (now can we have our piece of the pie please...)".

I'd like to agree but I think corruption is hard wired into their DNA.

One has to be impressed with a political party which exudes such compassion toward it's rivals and possibly own members.

In any civilised society such a party statement would surely bring about it's demise so are Thai politicians completely divorced from reality or does a thirst for blood sadly remain amongst the electorate?
