    Suthep Ordained As Monk

    Suthep ordained as monk
    July 16, 2014
    Bangkok Post

People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protest group leader Suthep Thaugsuban was ordained as monk in a low-key ceremony at Wat Ta Sai in Muang district of Surat Thani Tuesday.

Anti-government protest group leader Suthep Thaugsuban, left, wears saffron robes after being ordained as a monk at Wat Ta Sai yesterday. Supapong Chaolan

A source close to Phra Suthep said the ordination ceremony was arranged with Alongkorn Setcheao, Phra Suthep's cousin, the only relative present.

Phra Suthep, who has been given the monastic name "Prapakaro" (the one with the enlightened mind), will spend his time as a monk at Wat Suan Mokkh Kapanaran, also in Surat Thani.

The abbot of Wat Suan Mokkh, Phra Athikarnsuchart Panyatheeto, said he was contacted by Phra Suthep’s cousin who said the protest leader intended to become a monk.

The source said Phra Suthep was ordained as a gesture to make merit for those who perished during the PDRC's seven-month street protests.

His ordination came a surprise to most people, including his wife, Srisakul Prompan, who insisted she had no idea of Phra Suthep's plans to enter the monkhood.

Seems to put a high priority on keeping members of his immediate family informed.

There is absolutely nothing in this country that is untainted by the ghastly hypocrisy of their wretched society.

Quite amusing though, and a salutary lesson for those daft enough to credit their religion as some paradigm for life.

Years ago I watched monks walk single file, barefoot, and had respect for them and their system.
Over the years that respect whittled away.
My wife told me that some are not good.
    I believe her now.

    Prapakaro ????? come on!

Just what is the real reason ??

remember a former pimp stepping out of a coffin to announce to the world
that he had been reborn and now wanted to be a politician.

Suthep, aka Lookatmelookatme has been shamed into this by his ertwhile military bum chums who have used him and dumped him as they did Sondhi Limongkul. He forgot he was only the tail of the dog and when he tried to wag it it turned around and bit him as dogs are wont to do when they have a flea.

Khaosod had a different take on it.

Suthep Joins Ranks of Political Figures Seeking Safety in Monkhood

SURAT THANI — Former anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban surprised many by appearing as a monk today, raising speculation that he is joining a long tradition of political leaders seeking asylum in the monkhood.
Many villagers in Lamet district were baffled to see Mr. Suthep in saffron robes with his head and eyebrows shaven, as is the Buddhist tradition, collecting alms alongside other monks near Than Nam Lai Temple in Surat Thani this morning.

Mr. Suthep and other monks walked for about one kilometre to collect food donations before returning to their secluded temple. Only one temple assistant was seen accompanying Mr. Suthep throughout the journey.

Starting last November, the former deputy chairman of the Democrat Party spent six months as the firebrand leader of the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD) in its effort to topple the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and replace it with an unelected people’s council to carry out unspecified “national reforms.”

Mr. Suthep, who is now known by his Buddhist name "Paphakaro," did not announce his intention to be ordained as a monk. Media reports also indicate that people close to Mr. Suthep were surprised by the sudden move.

Ahh religion, the convenient refuge for scoundrels. In fairness to Suthep though, he has yet to be convicted of anything. However, I am sure he can put his expertise to good use helping with magical amulet sales. Maybe he can help organize a fundraising event to build new facilities at the Temple…...

Speculation only as he is in no imminent danger of anything other than a loss of face.

He swanked it up and shot his mouth and got a slap on the wrist from his owners. That is all. This is just a miffed hissy fit to curry favor and sympathy

He could have just stayed home for the duration and watched TV but to be out of the news was a burden too heavy too bear.

    Yep..
All just part of the show. Image thing.
Remembering that, essentially, he is still apart of the very protected establishment. This status won't be changing any time in the distant future.
