Current status of curfew and TV/internet censorship

(Could this thread be a sticky?) Anyways, I want my CNN and I want to go out after 10 PM. So this thread is dedicated to the first person who posts a change in the status quo, which is, as of 28/5/2014 at 8:21 PM, no CNN, no BBC on Truevisions. Curfew seems to be enforced from 10 PM - 5 AM. I am in Chiang Mai and police/military presence is at a minimum except at one gate to the old city where a couple of trucks with troops and cops mill around all day. I believe this gate was where the Reds liked to gather and also where a Molotov cocktail was thrown: (the south of Thailand is another story but that insurgency was happening long before the coup so I don't see a relationship with the insurgency in the south and the coup). I heard Thais in various other cities may have ignored the curfew. That doesn't seem to be the case here in CM. The normal Thais seem complacent to the degree that they exhibit true fear of expressing an honest pinion on the coup or estimate what is coming next and when is it due. It's like their scared of their own opinion. I've scouted out a few cops and soldiers sitting around the Thai Pai gate and in general they were far from cooperative and seem to act like sitting around the Thai Pai gate is how the Thai government should be run.
“The Master said, At fifty, I knew what were the biddings of Heaven. At sixty, I heard them with docile ear. At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart; for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right.”

I find it strange that here in Pattaya all 4 of the English language radio stations that I listen to are all still off.

I think you can still access all of CNN's content on line quite easily.

Here are a couple of links

Press Briefings | The White House

    and

    https://www.cia.gov/news-information

Might as well go straight to source, unless you have a penchant for middle aged bottle blonde birds with a squint, and thus therefore, watch cnn online.

As far as I know, CNN doesn't provide any live streaming here in LOS, like Live TV - Channel NewsAsia

ASN works - good for now. Don't really miss CNN or BBC on telly. Can get on the Web - still works. I think it will stay like this until the story moves on. Maybe another week. I do wish True would carry Al Jazeera, RT, DW and some of the other English news carriers..

Yeah, I'm watching the fuckin' L.A. (my hometown) Kings try to get into the Stanley Cup finals on ASN as we speak. CNN actually used to bore the fuck out of me but CNN and BBC would list world events in their relative importance and place most emphasis on the tragedies that mattered most and I find I miss that. CNN and BBC also had a few shows I liked to watch (Christiane Amanpour, Fareed Zakaria, Hardtalk, Click, Weekend BBC in general). Bottom line, you're right. I much prefer the sports stations, especially with the World Cup just around the corner, and there hasn't been any interference with those. They must feel sports are the soporific of the masses.

But I have to disagree with your opinion that the Western media stations will be back online in as little as a week, although you're prolly right that will happen as soon as the story moves on. The problem is that story won't be movin' on in less than a year (when the next election will be held), IMFHO. There was a TV presser this morning at 8 AM on all or most TV stations with very good English subtitles (surprise!). It was long winded but all the dude had to say about the Western media was that they exaggerate, agitate and take sides. He did not give any indication when they would be available again. To me it's an indication of indefinite censorship.

Internet speed. I use a DTAC aircard which can't hardly play Youtube videos without herking and jerking, let alone stream live TV (although it does handle Channel NewsAsia very well). I just did an Internet speed test: upload speed .31 Mbps. download speed .43 Mbps.

be interesting to see what the social media sites do as the thai traffic on these sites has been increasing.

Thailand: 28M on Facebook, 4.5M on Twitter, 1.7M on Instagram

Thailand social media stats: 28 million on Facebook, 4.5 million on Twitter, 1.7 million on Instagram May 30, 2014at 7:12 pmby Saiyai Sakawee Share 69401180 Image by Twitter user @Khajochi Back in March, Thailand had roughly 24 million Facebook users and 1.5 million Instagram users. Twitter saw 35 percent user growth and 45 percent more use per user in 2013 compared to 2012 in Thailand. The number has grown significantly since then. Earlier this week at the Thailand Zocial Awards in Bangkok, some interesting numbers were presented. Zocial Inc, the company behind ZocialRank, which monitors social media trends in the country, hosted the event. See: After Thailand’s coup, rulers want to meet with Facebook, Google, Line, to discuss censoring individual users According to the company, Thailand has 28 million Facebook users, growing 53 percent faster than the previous year. That makes Thailand Facebook’s ninth biggest country worldwide. Thailand has 67 million people, so one-third of the population has a Facebook account. 55 percent of Thailand’s Facebook users reside in Bangkok (15.4 million people), followed by Chiangmai, Chonburi, and Nakhonrachasima provinces. In 2013, women accounted for 51 percent and men accounted for 49 percent of Thai Facebook accounts. 57 percent of Thai Facebook users post pictures, the most popular feature, followed by check-ins (33 percent), sharing links (21 percent), sharing YouTube videos (3 percent), and posting statuses about themselves (2 percent). Twitter and Instagram is also popular in Thailand. 4.5 million Twitter users and 1.7 million Instagram users live in the country. Thai people spend about 3.7 hours per day surfing social media, just behind the people in the Philippines who clock in at four hours per day. Zocial Inc also did a small survey on users of messaging app Line. It shows that from 688 correspondents, 87 percent use the chat app to send messages, 47 percent use it to share pictures, and 45 percent use Line for its games.
