My BiL got busted a few months back for the same thing, drugs and illegal possesion of a gun. He has done time a couple of times. Once for attempted murder. All he got for the drugs and gun possesion was a couple of thousand Baht fine.

^But he's a Thai, not an Aussie. And not busted under junta rules (whatever they may turn out to be). The new boys in town might want to make an example right off the bat. We shall see.

^Valid. Will be interesting to see if this goes to civil court, or military junta courts-martial. If the latter, $$$ might not mean much given the likely attention which will be paid.

PHUKET – An Australian national has been arrested with crystal methamphetamine at his apartment in Katu district.
Tourist police apprehended Mark Robert Coutelas at Green Mango Apartment on Wednesday night with four bags of the drug weighing 2.45 grammes, Pol Lt Col Nikom Thienhaw, an investigator of the Tourist Police Division in Phuket, said on Thursday. He was charged with possessing illicit drugs.
The arrest followed a tip-off that a foreigner was selling crystal methamphetamine in the area after he had been released on bail from previous charges
Mr Coutelas, 53, was arrested at the same place on May 27 with a bag of the drug weighing 0.53 grammes and a Glock gun with 10 bullets.
