    Anti-coup Stance

As the coup d’état council, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), deposed the government and started to rule the country on May 22, 2014. We, Student For Democracy Group, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, regarded this action as violating principles of political science and democracy. Hence, we would like to propose this statement to the junta as following:

    1. Repealing the constitution and declaring martial law are considered as severely disgracing the Rechtsstaat and the Rule of Law. These actions are operated in the way of dictatorship and are contradictory with modern state principle and democratic rule in the view of international community, as appeared in many statements from various countries around the world.

    2. Overthrowing the democratically elected government by using an outlaw method on behalf of terminating the country's escalating political crisis is in fact demolishing an important democratic principle of people equality. Therefore, the democratically elected government shall be righteous to rule the country and terminate the country's escalating political crisis without demolishing the principle of people equality.

    3. According to the fifteenth announcement of National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), all state radio and TV stations, all satellite TV stations, cable TV stations and community radio stations were ordered to halt all their normal programming. This announcement violates freedom of expression and freedom of information and forces people to listen only to the information broadcasted by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Moreover, human rights principle is now violated since core leaders, politicians, activists, scholars, and people who peacefully demonstrated, were all caught. We would like to make a demand for abolishing the restraint of all state radio and TV stations, all satellite TV stations, cable TV stations and community radio stations, together with immediately releasing core leaders, politicians, activists, scholars, and people who peacefully demonstrated.

For these reasons, We, Student For Democracy Group, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, would like to make a demand to the coup d’état council for immediately returning power to people in the way of democracy via election. This means would finally lead to the parliamentary system, together with preserving the principle of people equality and the righteous political norm and, retaining the country's trustworthiness from international community.
