Troops have sent Panthongtae Shinawatra, the son of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, to his Bangkok residence in line with his own wish, Army deputy spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree said Sunday.

Winthai said Panthongtae was earlier staying in Chiang Mai and after he was summoned for a talk "to set a right understanding", he was sent to his Bangkok residence "in line with his wish".

Earlier, pictures of Panthongtae being escorted by troops were circulated in social networks, leading to speculations that he has been arrested.
