A Norwegian arrested for operating a clinic without a licence

A Norwegian national was arrested in Chon Buri by immigration police for opening a clinic and providing treatment without a licence.

Police raided the clinic which is located on the second floor of a shophouse in Tambon Nong Peue, Banglamung district of Chon Buri and found the Norwegian, identified as Vincent Stoltenizersteen, in the clinic.

The suspect claimed that he was a former medical student and used to work with the therapists of a wellknown soccer team in Thailand. But he could not produce any licence to operate the clinic to the police.

His passport also showed that the suspect entered Thailand with a student’s visa, said police.

Also found in the clinic were several medicines for pain relief and inflammation.

A lot of Norwegians have recently moved into the E. Seaboard area of Rayong and Chonburi.
They have spurred the property market here exponentially, but seem to have bought property mostly based on ads in Norwegian newspapers and seem particularly clueless about their new locale, and just about everything else.

Was this a "just take your clothes off so I can examine you" sort of arrangement?

The guy has the smarts to excel in his profession but is not smart enough to abide by the rules of the country he chooses to reside in.

On well, another recalcitrant farang arsed out of the Country.

Cant blame the Thais for cracking down EH.

How can you tell his "profession" from the above then El Tel?

He "claims" to have been a "former medical student" and is on a student visa.

Are you some kind of clairvoyant?

I bulged a disk quite badly in 1995, while living in LOS. I finally found a clinic with an Aussie chiro. This guy brought me back, over long, painful months. The last time I went in to see him, he had been deported. No license. But he was great! Never had another problem with it.

I still receive the TV mail out, Read the story there, they had pictures of the guys clinic.

Very professionally set out by the way . All the charts and what not.

The Guy is a Chiropractor or something like that.

A few posters came out in support of his work saying he helped them a lot.

Hence my comment that he was a dumb ass thinking he could operate without permits and the like.

    Job only allowed for Thais.

They cannot accept competition. Only corruption, nepotism and cronyism.

Competition on their patch from a fuxing farang, you must be fuxing joking.

Part of why this country is never, ever going to amount to anything.

Yup, but the younger and more globalised generation seem to have more confidence in themselves and understand the benefits of integration so it's only a matter of time.

I can't see why a farang should be able to compete with the Thais if the Thais already have the expertise.

Whether one thinks their Chiropractors are shit or not is irrelevant.

Simply taking work away from Thais and on top of that operating with no license or correct Visa .

The rules are clear on this front.

    Possibly.

All the globalized Thais I know returned to Thailand after doing their MA's in the West in order to exploit the unskilled workforce here.

And have been doing so ever since, with remarkable amounts of exploitation.

As it is, a greater percentage of these globalized types don't reside here anyway. So there is not much they care to give back to the pot - in any regard.

Western values have been pretty shitty for the last 20 years or so really haven't they?

So you agree in limiting customer choice? Strange belief system you have there.

Not so much competing with either, more offering a valuable service to a specific demographic here - English speaking non-Thais that do not trust the quality of those qualified in a country where degrees and doctorates have been bought for decades.

Perhaps allowing others to work within a profession would motivate the Thais to improve their quality and services.

Much easier just to ban others and continue along Thailand's merry way with a nasal stick up the hooter and Boing-Boing sounds coming from the closest TV.

Strange to see you support this.

One of the many reasons why this country is nothing more than a car accident is the Thai practice of retaining a monopoly in practically everything they do.

When gormless idiots speak of " taking away work from the Thai " they are really saying the cartels' grip on society mustn't be loosened.

Thai have no hesitation in exploiting foreign labour at the expense of their own people when it suits them, they have no qualms about it at all. However, should any foreigner have the temerity to threaten their interests for one moment then they'll be down on them like a ton of bricks crying that the poor Thai must be protected.

It's just hypocrisy. But the problem for everyone is that in the final analysis, the services provided here are shit and too expensive. Competition would kill them and they know it which is why they have these cartels.

From banks to hotels, from department stores to supermarkets, from transport to newspapers, the list is endless.

    But hey, that's Asia.

Oh, and one more thing, Terry, will you please stop wittering on about rules and visas. If you want to stay and do your thing you have to PAY FOR IT. This guy obviously hadn't, otherwise he would not be having the problem he has now.

Your naivety is down right embarrassing.
