Food expo draws interest despite political instability | Thai PBS English News

Although the current political impasse has taken toll on businesses and industries, at least the food expo is unscathed with more exhibitors showing interest to take part.

Interest in product and investment expos is still high and effort by relevant departments to promote the country continues.

Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) director Ms Nanthawan Sakuntanak stated that her department will continue its efforts to promote the THAIFEX – World of Food Asia 2014 Expo which is scheduled to be held between the 21st – 25th of May at Impact Convention Center in Muang Thongthani.

She expected attendance to be more than 96,000 participants and the event should generate income of no less than five billion baht.

The event will be the largest food expo ever organised in Asia and will showcase Thailand’s strength as a major exporter of food products in the world.
The DFT is also confident that Thailand’s food export sector will expand by 4.8 percent as projected.

Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Issara Wongkusonkit also disclosed that bookings for exhibition booths have been completely filled.

Altogether, 3,200 booths spaces have been prepared and bookings from foreign clientele have increased by 40 percent.

This has prompted organisers to seriously consider enlarging the exhibition area for next year’s event.
