Suthep says PDRC to launch an offensive next week

Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban announced Thursday night that the People’s Democratic Reform Committee would launch an offensive next week to “seize back sovereign power” for the Thai people.
Addressing a crowd of supporters at Lumpini park Thursday night, the PDRC secretary-general said that the people would “seize back the sovereign power” so that a people’s government and a people’s assembly could be set up to start the reform process which would take one and a half years after which an election would be held.

He said that the mass procession tomorrow (Saturday) was meant to send a message that the “people who are the real owner of the country” want immediate reform before there is an election.

He said that the people had lost their patience and wanted immediate reform to be worked out by the people and not by politicians and that Thaksin regime must not be allowed to have any influence over the Thai politics during the reform period “which means caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her cabinet must be out of the office”.

The reform, explained Mr Suthep, was meant to allow “good people” to have a chance to administer the country on behalf of the people.

At this rate we will see Yingluck impeached, the Democrat party disbanded, and some absolute nobody running the country.

If the EC go ahead with the next election and the Democrats refuse to stand then the party is over for them.

There is a New Democrat party though.....

Well the red shirts have been building up slowly, but steadily. They have managed to keep a lid on their extremists so far, but their fuse is noticeably getting short. The death spiral may be starting now- the worse one side gets, the worse the other responds. Not looking good for Thailand at all.

One silver lining- most of the illicit arms, on both sides, are in and around bangkok now.

IMO as long as the Dubai jackel is breathing there will never be peace in Thailand.

I've seen many comments likening Suthep to Hitler, but I disagree.

He is more like this guy ...

Well whether Songkran or other times, it's coming. Look at Egypt. A bad governing but absolutely majority elected government put down ruthlessly and brutally (with torture) by the army - Uncle Sam nods approval. That's the GO SIGN for Thailand in my view. As soon as the Reds' unleash their understandable revenge the army will come to the sakdina/ammart/rich chink rescue - and without holding any punches, IMO
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

With all the flippant comments aside, I think most of us realize just how serious it is now. Unlike anything most of us have seen before.

To be fair, all these politicians are somebodies in Thailand. If you think they're nobodies it's because you haven't made the effort to understand the country you live in.

Just reading the BBC report on the new protests. The tone of the report sounds like Suthep is a hero seeking to reform Thailand away from the darkness of its political system. Almost like it is preparing the way to report that a popular coup has happened for the good of all.

^^ The sister of a fugitive appointed to look after her brothers business interests, probably in connection with some tax dodging piece of entrepreneurism. Not exactly a self-made woman I would have thought but perhaps famous for being related to a criminal.

Strangely , my father wanted me to partner him in a plumbing firm when I was younger but I quickly realised i couldn't have coped with the fame.

I'm pretty sure the peasants of Thailand who voted for Yingluck hadn't heard of her a couple of months previously either. Ok i'm happy to be a peasant
