    Singha beer family disowns Chitpas

The father of Singha beer heiress and core anti-government protest leader Chitpas Bhirombhakdi on Monday announced his daughter will change her surname, to allow her to continue political activities without hurting the family business.

In an open letter sent to the media on Monday evening, Jutinan Bhirombhakdi, executive vice-president of Singha Corporation, said he had talked to Ms Chitpas several times about her expression of opinions on political matters, but they had different opinions on several issues. Ms Chitpas, who was formerly deputy spokeswoman for the Democrat Party, insisted on continuing with her political career, he said daughter-will-change-surname.

She looks like a nice young woman, perhaps driven along by friends, etc. It must be difficult being the daughter of a network M, but I respect her father's concern, and lament the feeling in his heart tonight. I wish they would both recognize that democracy is not about them and their type of people, but it is about the majority of Thai people. Be clear and understand this - the majority are not you - they are the people working for you, the ones getting 300-500 baht per day - when you pay that much for a coffee - and they hate you and your whistles. If you can't understand that, then you are in deep, deep trouble - for your safety, can you not understand that??
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

That's the ticket girl, keep a low profile by sending out a press release that you intend to change your family name.

    I bet Daddies well chuffed.

Amen to what Tom Sawyer said.

Also, to hell with their family and its reputation. They have enriched themselves selling products which are harmful to health, contribute to addiction, contribute to domestic violence, increase public safety and order problems, cost low-income families dearly needed money, and crassly market their intoxicants to children. And if it's your cup of tea, go against one of the main tenets of Buddhism.

Great role models. The public would be better off if all of them just STFU.

The makers of Beer Leo would do well not to disenfranchise provincial Thailand.

She was quoted as saying ( BP )

".....many Thais lack a true understanding of democracy... especially in the rural areas".

Crass remarks like this speak volumes for her own ignorance rather than denigrating the rural population.

Also about the toxic attitudes and sheer ignorance of a number of people in Bangkok. The hate speech coming from those podiums is more reminiscent of a Mussolini rally than a democratic protest. And then they ask for your vote.

thats just your typical western socialist "politics of envy", and it reeks of destructive malevolence, just like it always has done.

and democracy is for everyone. full stop.

They both understand that Thai democracy is solely about them, and not the majority. The difference most likely is that the father doesn't want family members to be vocal about it, leave that to the plebs. It's riskier than to tend to the business only, the red mobs won't go after the business people, but could after the yellow politicians.
