A Libyan man was shot dead and two Thai bystanders were wounded during a brawl at a pub in Bangkok, police said on Tuesday.

Pol Lt Col Opas Kwansomkid, an investigative officer at Pathumwan police station, said the victims were taken to Hua Chiew hospital. Esam Ali Elhamadi, 33, later succumbed to his injuries.

The two injured Thais were Kittipong Pijarn, 26, and Katiya Attabutr, 30.

Police, with the assistance from a witness, later arrested the alleged gunman, Ekethana Saengdokmai, and seized a pistol as evidence.

Pol Lt Col Opas said the suspect testified that he and his friends got into a fight with a group of foreigners while they were all drinking at the Spicy Pub, Rong Muang Soi 1, in Phathumwan district. He said his side was outnumbered so he pulled out his gun and fired multiple rounds at Elhamadi.

The suspect said Mr Kittipong and Ms Katiya were hit by stray bullets and were not involved with the fight.

Police charged the man with murder and possession of a firearm in a public area. They took him into custody at Pathumwan police station for further proceedings.

To say its supposed to be extremely difficult to buy a gun legally as the laws are quite austere here in Thailand it certainly does not stop any one from acquiring one doe's it ?,were there is a demand there will be a supply ,and however illegal it is and whatever the article ,if you have the right money some one will supply you with it .

Why don't these donkeys shoot only at the people they are being threatened by?? Random shots at anyone unlucky enough to be in the vicinity is very poor form.

Going to be hard to get illegal weapons under control here. They were been giving out free guns in SEA for over 50 years.
Believe the going rate around here for a 11 mil Chinese semi auto is 5 to 7,000 Baht. Jim

It's quite easy to get a gun legally or illegally here. My BiL is always coming around to my house with guns that have been left with him to cover gambling IOU's. He currently has a .22 revolver, loaded with magnum hollow point bullets.

Which of course is illegal cos all firearms that are in the keeping of any other than the registered owner are considered Illegal ,and how do you ascertain whether the weapon is legal or not ,his word?as for saying that Firearms are easy to legally come by ,its next to impossible for a farang to own a handgun and then he has to be a member of the local police pistol club and the weapon HAS to be kept on Police property, least ways thats how it works here in Prakhonchai ,Buriram

Getting a weapons permit is really not hard, out here own land, 22 rifle no problem. Wife asked the ex district Governor if she could have a hand gun permit, as she carried money from the rubber sales. Friend of the family at the time, he said come on in tomorrow and I will issue one. I knocked that on the head fast.
Have permission to have a pump action shotgun and a 9 mil hand gun for our factory. Issued after a few rubber thefts, to the FIL, he is down as the MD of the factory. I was going to pay for them, but one night before I bought them he was at the factory and the movement lights kept going on, with out looking at the CCTV we have , he want out and pumped a few rounds from his 22 rifle into the grass, killing a dog. Though what happens if I rock up one night and set the sensor lights off.
Trouble being, just like driving, no one is trained. I cringe some days when the BILs and FIL go out the back of the house to site in their legal, 22s to go hunting. They use a coconut tree as a target as they set the telescopic sight. They stand on the stilt porch banging away, I keep telling them that 22s have been known to kill at over 1 km away. You may very well be right there, think Thailand sent 400 soldiers to Iraq, non combat troops, Engineering types. There was a worry that as the uniforms look very similar to US they may be shot and killed.
A special Buddha medallion was make for them. Guess what, none were killed.
Have more than a few Buddha things in the car as well as a few written spells behind the sun visor. This allows me to drive drunk as a skunk, up a hill on the wrong side of the road at night with no head lights.

Of course it's "next to impossible" for farangs to have a gun. But for your Thai wife it's piss easy. A trip to the Amphur, fill out the forms. Take it to the policestation. It's then sent away for about a month. Comes back and away she goes and buys an assault shotgun, having never held a gun in her life before.

Handguns, shotguns, rifles etc there all the same, as far as I'm aware, when applying for one. I know of farangs wives who have handguns. Never a problem. All kept at home and never checked if they're stored secure.
