This is the same as some previous scenarios, too.

Yeah Norton just read this article which echo's your thoughts to the letter , excessive speeds and unable to think quick enough to a situation plus in many cases poor maintenance are a deadly combination , add to that a complete disregard or awareness of other road users ,and wholly complacent enforcement of the law except maybe and I do say maybe at "dangerous time's" like the up coming water insanity leads to only one end result and a crystal ball is not needed to know what that is Songkran exodus will again bring misery | Bangkok Post: opinion

This all comes down to the lack of law enforcement in this country. After 10 years in Thailand I returned to OZ for a brief visit.
Surprise, surprise Cars STOPPED at pedestrian crossings, cars doing left hand turns waited for me to finish crossing. Thailand has the same rules, but the bib don't enforce them. Until they do another 4-500 Thais will die every New year and Songkran.

The sad thing is that as long ago as 10 years ago the government recognised the problems with these van's the drivers and the lack of maintenance and started to use their own fleets of these vans for driving civil servants around the country... but beyond this what have they done to deal with the issue. I guess a case of I'm all right somchai.

You ,Me and thousands of others think the same ,however there are those who come out with the complete crap time after time and say ,"it could happen anywhere " Yeah anywhere in Thailand.
