    Smoke in Chiang Rai.

Here we go again. Respirators out everybody.

PCD issues Warning on Haze Threat for Chiang Rai

The annual haze began in February and covered many parts of northern Thailand

CHIANGRAI – The Pollution Control Department (PCD) has issued air quality alerts in the North and warned residents about health risks. The PCD warned that recent tests found the levels of particulate matter smaller than 10 microns (PM10) in the northern region of Thailand to have exceeded the safety level of 120 micrograms per cubic meter.

    Dunno about Burma causing that.

Nan, Phayao, Phrae areas are notorious for their rice straw burn off, usually twice a year, November and February.

Nice to have a two-harvest season.
Many areas don't [or can't], but still endure the short-time smoky haze.

How long does the smoke hang around for? I'll be up there in about 4 weeks.

We had rain last night so a bit of a reprieve here in Mae Taeng. Last year the thick smoke hung on until the middle of April. We had visibilities less than 500 feet at times and everything was covered with dust. Not so bad this year, at least yet.

I've just hit six months living in Chiang Rai, and so far have loved the weather. In fact, it's exceeded my expectations in every way. Knew this part of the year was coming though. Unfortunate if it lasts till April. By then it'll be quite hot I imagine...

I liked the sign in town that says.........

    To Chiang Rai Beach.

Bit far away from the ocean innit

Cracking little town in the cool season though. Too bad about the bloody yearly burn off's stuffing it up.
