Convicted Belgian Child Rapist Arrested in Pattaya

PATRICK FREDERIC DANY OEPEN a 42 year old Belgian convicted of raping his step daughter in his home country has been arrested in Nongprue, Pattaya on Wednesday.

Oepen absconded from Belgium last year after being convicted of repeatedly raping his step daughter over a period of 5 years from when she was just 12 until 17. Courts sentenced him to 8 years in prison and he managed to escape Europe and flee to Thailand, first arriving in Phuket on a visitor visa in February 2012

As his visitor visa came close to expiry he applied for and received a student visa, enabling him to stay in Thailand.

Oepen has been sought throughout Europe and meanwhile had moved around Thailand before ending up in Pattaya, where he was arrested at the house of 35 year old female local national today.

The arrest came about after Belgian Authorities contacted Thailand’s Police as they learned of his whereabouts

When arrested he admitted that he was the person being sought for the crime and was taken into custody by Pattaya Police and Immigration authorities. It is expected that he will returned to the custody of Belgium’s police force later this week

For a small insignificant european backwater, belgium seems to produce an inordinately large number of depraved child molesters.

Also its no surprise that like the stubborn turd that wont flush away, it rises to the surface in pattaya, gods own cesspit.

If he has to stand trial for such a crime, how does he get to keep his passport??
Wouldn't that be the first thing you would take from him awaiting the verdict?

If Belgium is anything like Australia, the courts are more concerned with the offenders "human rights" than any form of justice/punishment.

He should have been picked up when he arrived in Phuket 12 months ago as Interpol would have circulated his details worldwide. I agree his sentence does seem light if the crime is as reported.
