Bus accident kills 4, wounds 30 in Tak

Four passengers, two of them foreigners, were killed and more than 30 others wounded, 10 of them seriously, when a Bangkok-bound tour bus from Tak's Mae Sot district overturned on Mae Sot - Tak highway on Tuesday morning, police said.

Pol Lt-Col Boonsri Homnan, the duty officer of Phawo police station, said the accident occurred between kilometre markers 28-29 in tambon Phawo of Mae Sot district.

More than 100 rescuers from different disaster relief organisations with 10 cranes rushed to the scene where the Transport Company's air-conditioned bus overturned.

Four passengers, two of them foreigners, were killed on the spot. They were a Norwegian tourist, aged about 40, and a worker holding a Myanmar passport. The other two killed were a Thai man and a Thai woman. Their names were not reported.

More than 30 passengers were wounded, 10 of them seriously. They were admitted to

About one half of the passengers were foreign tourists returning from a long weekend tour of Mae Sot to Bangkok. The accident caused a heavy traffic jam on the highway.

A passenger said the bus was negotiating a sharp curve at a high speed when the accident took place.

Police said the curve is where accidents frequently occur.

Not possible, all bus drivers are professional, and would never drive without due care and attention.

And of course the bus's are serviced on a very regular basis so it could not possibly be brake failure which caused the tragedy

Use that road often. Very dodgy when its wet. As for speeding, seen plenty of nutters in pick ups trying to overtake on blind hairpins so doesn't surprise me to read this news. Only surprised it has happened before.

Bangyai ,maybe you are not aware that overtaking on a blind corner is obligatory, simply because it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that if you come out of the manourve alive that the Monk who blessed your vehicle on that very special day known only to him and sold you that "special" Buddha Amulet for 300 baht makes you some how "Immortal", however the truly horrific accident statistics here in Thailand would suggest that Buddha and the saffron robed parasites are selling their paying customers short

Yes...done this route more than a few times [from Sukhothai].

When wet, it's not a picnic.
Naturally, regular drivers don't take heed - regardless of their experience.

Yep, thats about it. Considering that every single Thai who has a traffic accident and gets killed has had his vehicle blessed ..... its not much of a recommendation for the practice. In fact, from a logical point of view , it should be enough to put you off !
