A drunk man said accidentally shot dead his friend dead when he mistook him for a wild boar as they made their way home in the dark after a night of crab fishing in northern Phayao province.

Puan Maneewan was shot in the stomach by his friend Somkuan Promson, 48.

He told the police that they both had too much to drink when they went crab hunting.

Mr Somkuan said he was looking for his friend with a when saw what he thought was a wild boar and accidentally fired his shotgun.

He also said he dragged his friend to shore and tried to apply first aid, but it was too late.

Mr Somkuan has been charged with murder, carrying a firearm in public without a valid reason, and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, police said.

I suspect his weapon wasn't fired 'accidentally'

"he dragged him to shore"... does it mean, they walked away from the water, where he mistook his friend for a boar, and then dragged the shot man back to the shore?

not unlikely he shot him at the shore, where there is not so many boars...?

I've seen a handful of wild boars in Thailand, in Kanchanaburi and Tak I believe. They were quite small compared to what you might think. Hard to mistake even a small child for one.

I have, however, seen some boar-looking--and definitely boar-acting--mfers in my time here.

this finally explains not unlikely what i saw some 15 years ago on a motor bike...
i only saw the shape of "it", dog size, with slightly roundish back, when riding on a motor bike through shady area, and hardly avoided collission...

it WASNT a dog, though nobody would believe it...
but a smaller wild boar is very possible...

Bach home, I used to go wild boar hunting with a revolver. It was quite a lot of fun and besides being tasty, they make for a nice trophy mount! I was never drunk, nor shot a friend though.

I've seen some good sized crabs when diving, but never considered the need for a firearm

Just how big are the crabs of Phayao province that a shotgun is required? what's the deal, take their legs out with the gun then wrestle them into submission?

If you should be walking in the "bush" and see piece of red/pink tape across the trail take care because under or near the tape will be a trip wire across the trail attached to a makeshift shotgun to shoot the boar that trips the wire.

    So yes they are here.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
