This one gets rattled around a fair bit, and I am by no means an expert on this - but I have a nasty feeling that being named as the father on the birth certificate does not necessarily mean that you are legally considered the father. I am sorry, I am not up on all the fine details, but I know it is a problem many farang fathers have run across.

As a side point, I also think there is something else compounding by who does the reporting of the birth to the correct authorities (they may take precedent over the named father??).

I think you actually need to go to court if you want to assert full parental rights, and I beleive that simply being named as the father does not carry any weight.

However, I am prepared to be corrected on all this.

On this particular case, I have nothing but sympathy and best wishes for the father. yes, he messed up, yes he got rolled by an obviously conniving family - but here is the thing - he is trying to take responsibility for the consequences of his bad judgement (i.e. the son). We can ALL screw up royally sometimes, but stepping up to the plate, taking responsibility and trying to provide for the boy marks him as a fool, but an honourable one. far, far too many farangs would, or have -walked away.

I'm not sure he's a fool for wanting to take care of his son. Other than that, I completely agree with you.

agreed, badly worded on my part. fool referes only to his previous actions. (situation),

^^^^ yes . I was under the same understanding.
the name of the father means fkall or not much in court.

I think the father needs to legitimise his child in the few weeks after birth other wise its a battle.
don't ask me how to legitimise your child here as I got no further with that.
the only otherway is by marrage .
if married at time of birth , hand over copys of id and marrage cert . baby is legitimised .
    done at the ampher
will not put up wiv the "Nanny state" so don't push it on me.

Couldn't he just get a divorce and granted custody of the child on the grounds of abandonment by the family court?

and on another note... he said, that he bought a lot of equipment in the house...

    in such a case...
every single fucking movable item in the house is his property..

this all can be sold on ebay...
and what cant be sold, can be chopped into pieces, e.g. the usual ultra ugly furniture...

sureley, one shouldnt go back alone - to pick even the toaster up...

if it was me, the house would blow up - or burn down... to the ground...

    It is.

And he's happy to leave it.

"Mr. Stephan said it doesn’t matter to him about the assets he has lost, such as the house and car".

Good on him. Some people aren't filled with anger, resentment, and a need for spiteful vilification.

shouldnt there be a sort of break on this stupidity - at least occassionally?

if it is all THAT easy, then no wonder, the game is repeated again and again...

    BS Chris!

Rule No1. Only marry the woman of your dreams that treats you with the same love and respect that that you show her.
that's exactly what he thought he was doing.

he needs a good lawyer and FAST.

if he wants to get the kid out of thailand it is gonna cost him bigtime.
....and i am not even talking about lawyers' fees........

a good lawyer should be able to recover a large proportion of the money he spent, as long as he can prove he brought it into thailand in the first place.

he DOES need the wife/girlfriends permission in order to get the kid a passport and my guess is this is gonna be the biggest hurdle (unless he resorts to forgery etc as i had to in my case)

a lot depends on whether he was legally married and whether he is listed as the father on the birth certificate.
if this is NOT the case he has no rights to the child (dna test or not)
and even if he gets the child to germany he won't be able to remain there.

i wish the guy well, but it looks like he is fukt.
    brrrzzzzt, brrrzzzt!
    beep!. ting, ting
    redirecting, please be patient..........:

    hello, insect!
    brrrzzzt, brrrzzzt..................

...turns out she was trying to say : "german shepherd dog"!

yeah, bring the yolaman checkadog, when getting your toaster back...

it is imo plain stupidity to leave the valuables back and "happily" move on...

even if he doesnt mind about it (now!), he should recover all he can, and if he doesnt want the money to keep for himself, he can donate it to some place, where people are starving or in much need (really...)... or he can pay it into an investment in a western bank, in case the intelligent child wants to study one day...

thats all better, than leave it back with these greedy fuckers...

and possibly paying the lifestyle of that women with some other lazy sucker...

in any way, he will be badly missing the money, when he gets old or falls sick...
    ...jmho...

Good to see so many Indian Givers on here.

Buy people things, then later on demand them back, steal, smash or set fire to them.

Didn't you guys have to be over the age of 13 to sign up on here?

Though it is typical immature, spit-the-dummy Western behaviour you're displaying. No doubt what ye claim of Thais in other posts.
