Dutchman Falls Deathly Ill in Jomtien Condo

A 46-year-old man from the Netherlands was found in a coma in his Jomtien condominium. He was rushed to the hospital, but died en route. Police did not find any injuries on his body or evidence of foul play. Doctors suspect the man died of a congenital disease.

PATTAYA – October 8, 2012 [PDN]; at 1:30 a.m., a report of a tourist found in a coma who later died in the hospital was received by the Pattaya police station in Chonburi province. Officers went to inspect the scene at Pattaya Memorial hospital.

The man was identified as Mr. Marcelgj Brockhoff, age 46, nationality Dutch. There were no wounds on his body. Police questioned the doctor, who said that rescue officers of Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation had brought the foreign man from a condominium on Jomtien beach after he was found in a coma, from an unknown cause.

Rescuers said when they arrived at the condo, the man barely had a pulse and was not breathing. A friend of the man accompanied rescuers on the ride to the hospital. Along the way, rescue officers tried to pump the man’s heart to keep him alive. When they arrived to the hospital, the man still was not breathing, so the doctors tried to help him as much as possible, but the man died.

Doctors then notified the police. For the cause of death, the doctor assumed that the man had a congenital disease that was intense enough to put his body in shock, so he died.

The police made notes for evidence and sent the body to perform an autopsy to find the real cause of death, in order to inform his relatives and notify the Dutch embassy.
