when thais see their reputation constantly besmirched around the world they will do something about it. this story is a masterclass in thai corruption, immorality, deception and deceit.

its a loss of face. for the red bull family, for the police force and for the system and country in general.

the more these stories are picked up and publicised around the world, the more chance there is that things will slowly, bit by bit, change. thais do not like negative publicity and the loss of face it brings.

you need to look beyond your "chickenheads" living in their bubbles of selfish indifference.

this country is far more than that.

Thais might not like it but they seem to have a high tolerance to it. The bit by bit change you forsee might well happen but it will likely be at the sub atomic level and invisible to the naked eye.

And that's the beginning of the end.

Another few hundred k to all involved, maybe a total of a few million if the family's generous, probably less than getting the Ferrari fixed.

Sorry to interupt you guys masterbating furiously about the rich kid going to jail for killing a policeman but that aint going to happen.
Also, are you all out of your fucking tiny minds?
The average Thai policeman is dirty vermin not worthy of the uniform and I would not piss on one if on fire in front of me.
Fuck him, one less filthy parasite to extort money from the poor, vulnerable and defenceless. No fucking loss to this country, not one iota!
Thats a fine car the dirty pig damaged too, shame he wasnt hit by a Hino sip lor instead.

Oh for Chrissakes, grow up Tax.

The only folk who bleat like stuck pigs over the reputation of Thailand and quote it are those who have most to lose if their disgraceful conduct were to be exposed as they fuck over whoever they can for as much as they can.

There's no such thing as a country's reputation and those who invoke it are the very people who tarnish it, as if it ever did exist as a measurable phenomenon.

The average Thai Joe is so fucking clueless he probably doesn't even know where fucking North is.

Thai reputataion indeed. Don't be such an arse.

What evidence do you have that would lead you to such a conclusion? It's wishful thinking - nothing more. There is no indication that any previous (and many of them recent) cases of hi-so ending up in the international media exposure has resulted in any change. Why would this? Having said that, if the international media were to do some real expose on the total farce of a justice system here - like Panorama or 60 Minutes - or the NYT etc, then yes there could be some reaction. But otherwise the foreign media will have forgotten this story by Friday.
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

Red Bull heir charged in Thai police officer's death - CNN.com

Red Bull heir charged in Thai police officer's death

    From Kocha Olarn, CNN
    September 3, 2012 -- Updated 1651 GMT (0051 HKT)

    STORY HIGHLIGHTS
    • Vorayud Yoovidhaya, 27, is a prominent member of one of Thailand's richest families
    • Police Sgt. Major Wichien Klanprasert was responding to a robbery when his bike was hit
    • Yoovidhaya claimed he was suddenly cut off by the police motorcycle, police say
    • Yoovidhaya's grandfather teamed with an Austrian businessman to create Red Bull

Bangkok, Thailand (CNN) -- The grandson of the creator of Red Bull energy drink allegedly crashed his Ferrari into a Thai police officer, killing him, and then fled the scene, Bangkok police said Monday.

The controversy over the arrest of Vorayud Yoovidhaya, 27, who is a prominent member of one of Thailand's richest families, resulted in the suspension of a police officer accused of having another person pretend to have been driving Yoovidhaya's car.

Police Sgt. Major Wichien Klanprasert was responding to a robbery call when his motorcycle was hit by what a witness described as a black sports car at 5 a.m., according to Bangkok Police Maj. Gen. Parinya Jansuriya.

Investigators followed the path of leaked oil from the crash scene to Yoovidhaya's home, Jansuriya said.

Dozens of police surrounded the mansion before entering with a search warrant, where they found a badly damaged black Ferrari. The front was wrecked and its air bags deployed, Jansuriya said.

Yoovidhaya was taken to a police station for questioning and the car was seized by investigators, he said.

Yoovidhaya admitted driving the car and hitting the motorcycle, but he claimed he was suddenly cut off by the bike, according to Police Maj. Gen. Aunuchi Lekbumrung.

He has been charged with causing a death with negligence and hit and run, he said. Yoovidhaya was quickly released on a bond of 500,000 baht, about $16,000.

The man who had claimed to be driving was fined 6,000 baht, about $200, the Police Chief Kumronvit Thoopkrachang said.

Vorayud Yoovidhaya's grandfather, Chaleo Yoovidhaya, teamed with an Austrian businessman to create the Red Bull brand and products based on a Thai drink. His father, Chalerm Yoovidhaya, is an executive with the energy drink company.

Vorayuth Yoovidhya, a grandson of Red Bull founder Chaleo Yoovidhaya, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of being involved in a hit-and-run of a policeman in Bangkok, the Associated Press reported.

The AP said he was allegedly driving a Ferrari that struck a police officer and dragged his dead body down a street during the early morning hours. Police took in the 27-year-old for questioning after tracing oil streaks back to the family's gated estate.

The BBC said Bangkok's police chief took over the investigation after a lower-level officer was suspected of covering up the matter.

The Bangkok Post reported that Yoovidhya, who is known as Boss, confessed to the charge. The police officer who was killed, Sgt. Maj. Wichean Glanprasert, was riding a motorcycle, and suffered a broken neck and several broken bones.

The AP reported that Yoovidhya faces charges of causing death by reckless driving and escaping arrest, but was released on a $15,900 bail.

The police chief who took over the case, Lt. Gen. Comronwit Toopgrajank, said, "A policeman is dead. I can’t let this stand. If I let this case get away, I’d rather quit," according to the AP. "I don’t care how powerful they are. If I can’t get the actual man in this case, I will resign."

    So, he tried it on-
Bangkok's top police official, Lieutenant General Comronwit Toopgrajank, said he took charge of the investigation after a lower-ranking policeman initially tried to cover up the crime by turning in a bogus suspect.

What I'm somewhat curious about is why they let the kid (27 year old kid) do all those Perp Walks without wearing one of those ski masks? Normally, these criminals can hide their faces better than a long-billed baseball cap.

The cop had no tail light (quite possible) bad weather, faulty car, he'll be fine, maybe get the cameras to the temple and show him making merit, that usually does the trick.

    Right on cue:

Chaloem Yuwitthaya, the father of the accused driver, appeared at the funeral of the deceased policeman and gave his apologies to the relatives, saying he will pay compensation.
He said the crash was an accident which occurred due to the boy's car having engine difficulties which caused smoke to spew from the bonnet and obscure his view.
The sister-in-law of the dead policeman said that she believed initially when hit he was still alive but the driver tried to escape dragging the body for 200m which killed him.

Wonder if he has been tested yet? He's probably not ready for that yet, maybe next week.

Indeed, Butterfly. Any normal person, anywhere else in the world with even half a brain, would have immediately braked had his Ferrari developed such a problem. Here in lala land where any fantasy is peddled as truth to save face and evade responsibility the Thai Ferrari handbook of course advises that in the event of engine overheating or loss of oil pressure the accelerator should be depressed fully at high revs to be maintained until one arrives home irrespective of any impediment that may have collided with the vehicle whilst executing this manouevre.

I'm not sure what is the more obscene: a feckless idiot killing a man through stupidity or his father inventing such a puerile excuse in mitigation and expecting folk to actually believe him.

They insult one's intelligence at almost every level and one of the many reasons why I find them just so unattractive.
