Red Bull creator’s grandson suspected of killing policeman in hit-and-run with Ferrari
By Associated Press, Updated: Monday, September 3, 12:34 PM
BANGKOK — A grandson of the creator of the Red Bull energy drink is suspected of driving a Ferrari that struck and killed a policeman and then dragged the officer’s body down a Bangkok street in a hit-and-run accident.
Police took Vorayuth Yoovidhya in for questioning Monday after tracing oil streaks for several blocks to his gated estate in a wealthy Bangkok neighborhood.
Police commander Lt. Gen. Comronwit Toopgrajank said he found the car on the compound of late Red Bull founder Chaleo Yoovidhaya, one of Thailand’s wealthiest men before he passed away this year.
The officer was killed during a pre-dawn motorcycle patrol. Thai media reported that the car dragged the officer and his motorcycle for several dozen meters (feet) as it sped through the residential neighborhood.

Crime inspector of Thonglor police station seconded for trying arrest scapegoat
September 3, 2012 12:02 pm
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrajang Monday seconded Pol Lt Col Pannapon Nammuang, a crime suppression inspector of Thonglor Police station, to an inactive position at the Metropolitan Police.
Kamronwit said Pannapon tried to have someone to pretend to be the driver of the car that hit and killed Pol Sen Sgt Maj Wichien Klanprasert of Thonglor police station.
"This was unacceptable for him to set up for an arrest of a scapegoat. He ignored the death of his subordinate," Kamronwit said.
Kamronwit said Pannapon would be indefinitely seconded to the Metropolitan Police head office.

The son of Chalerm Yoovidhya, of Red Bull fame and owner of Siam Winery, was on Monday morning arrested on a hit-and-run charge, and the Thong Lor police superintendent was transferred to an inactive post for allegedly arresting a false driver.
Police said Vorayuth Yoovidhya, known as Boss, had confessed to the charge. Boss is the third son of Mr Chalerm, son of the deceased Red Bull energy drink tycoon Chaleo Yoovidhya.
Boss told investigators that he was driving a black Ferrari and ran into a motorcycle about 5.30am on Monday on Sukhumvit Soi 47, according to police.
The motorcyle rider, Pol Sen Sgt Maj Wichian Klanprasert of Thong Lor police station, was killed. His body dragged about 200 metres along the road. He reportedly suffered a broken neck and multiple broken bones.
Police said his pistol could not to be found when investigators arrived at the scene. His body was sent for an autopsy.
Prior to the arrest, witnesses told police that a black sports car ran into the motorcycle and then sped away. Police later found the car parked in a big house on Sukhumvit Soi 53. The house was identified as belong to the Red Bull family.
Metropolitan Police Division 5 deputy chief Jirapat Phumjit said he had talked to a maid inside the house, asking that the hit-and-run suspect surrender for questioning. The maid told him that the house owner was out.
Police did not entirely believe the maid and dispatched a team to surround the house.
Pol Lt Col Chotewat Luangwilai, the deputy chief of Thong Lor station, said Pol Lt Col Pannapon Nammuang, the Thong Lor superintendent, was this morning transferred to an inactive post for allegedly arresting a false driver earlier in the day.
Reports said Pol Maj Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, the new Metropolitan Police chief, went into the house where the sports car was parked to talk to the people inside. Reporters were not allowed into the premises.

I was looking at said car just one minute ago, very nice, sure as hell wouldn't buy my son one no matter what age.
Being moved to an inactive position! That's getting off incredibly lightly isn't it? Surely he should face harsher punishment than that.Originally Posted by StrontiumDog
Why? He was only doing what he has been taught to do in a normal case.
He wasn't taught to think for himself in this case, what was the poor man to do if his boss didn't tell him?

I wonder if he will be handled any differently as the victim was one of their own.
Yes, he will have to pay one hell of a lot more.
But to his family it will be peanuts

Just another day in the wild west. Corruption, cronyism and sycophancy. That a police officer of his rank in these circumstances involving manslaughter should simply be transferred to other duties without facing a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice is beyond comprehension in any state that purports to be a constitutional democracy enforcing an alleged rule of law.
To most of us from Europe it is also incomprehensible that neither the Prime Minister nor the the Justice Minister have publicly commented on these appalling antics. Can you imagine a copper's body being dragged for 300 yards along the roads of St John's Wood by, say, Richard Branson's son in his Ferrari before fetching up home whereupon access is denied until the Superintendent at the local nick is bunged a huge wodge in order to arrest subsequently a scapegoat driver only to have another officer blowing whistle on the scam? Christ, just about every member of the government would be queuing up to voice their indignation and avowal that justice will be done.
This is truly one sick country.
Well said, The Gent. That Pannapon dickwad ought to get hard time for trying to aid in a cover-up. How extra shameful when there was one of his own involved.
Judging by the extent of the injuries it might well be the case that it wasn't the impact that killed the policeman but rather the long dragging along the street that followed. To hit someone is an accident , to then drag them along is as near to murder as damn it.
May both the deceased RIP.
