@little chucock. Do I really have to explain that to you? Mate read the newspapers, have a look around. Please tell me how the exchange rate with the Thai Baht was 5-10 years ago. If you have found the answer. I'll explain the rest to you!

Erm, I thought this was about the murdered Brit; it's too bad it turned out to be a Thai cliche', with his 29yo wife the perp.
I know an Aussie who's getting set up; no clue, just keeps pumping money through the ATM pipeline to LOS. Tried to warn him to no avail.

Yes it was about the murdered Brit, what's the Aussie then got to do with it pumping his money through the ATM to LOS?

Sometimes old retired Ozies find a younger Thai wife, have a kid, build a house in the sticks on her land that she got from her folks, get a passport etc for her and her kid to go to Oz long term and so on, meanwhile pumping money out from Oz via the ATM just to pay for it all.

    Then whack.

    Happens to other whiteys too,

Yep, exactly. The Aussies wife has already lost 1 house(of 2) and a ฿1million Honda to pay off gambling debts.
What he doesn't know is; his 2nd house and car are also gone. This while he builds a ฿4million house far from his present village.
Due to his wife's "connections" I'm not saying a fucking thing additionally!
Got it now W of O?

I wonder if WoZ realizes this isn't an uncommon thing.
Wasn't there a story a while back about a guy who's wife and her family dumped him to die in a hut in the jungle.

How many foreigners would be living in Thailand? either permanent or semi permanent?

Sure I'm aware those things happen, but we only hear those stories when it goes wrong, not the ones that live here already for a long time, very happy with a Thai wife ( and kids). I know quite a few like that.

Happy people don't make the newspapers. You only read about the car accidents, not the millions that made it home safe that day, that's not news.

I'm not that old (I think) but yes I'm retired (for now, maybe in the furure when our house is finished I'll find something to do).

I could have spent the next 25 years in my house in Adelaide or Alice Springs, watch the sun go down every day. A few years ago I made the decision to stop working 7 days a week, 16 hrs a day, i had enough. Why not start a new life and ended up in Thailand. I have not regretted that decision, I'm loving it here.

Sure when I die, my Thai wife will get the lot, what do I need it for. Can't take it with me. Carpe Diem, enjoy life while you can.

Get it now G of KK?

^^ and wasn't he a retired UK cop, too. His colleague in the UK thinking something amiss after no correspondence went to Thailand to investigate: otherwise even worse result. Years ago now it seems.

Or the Brit who was chopped up and cooked (cremated ) by his missus and her relies on his BBQ at his des res in the sticks about six years ago.

Wealthy public school chap, loads of money, but she ran into debt gambling, the usual story, meet, have a kid, build big house, buy a bar/night club, wife gets other ideas, boyfriend, gambling, bang.
