Bus accident kills 5, injures 40

Five passengers were killed and about 40 others injured when a tour bus overturned in Loei province early Monday morning.

Police said the bus was heading for Nakhon Phanom from Chiang Rai and crashed at a sharp curve in the rain at kilometre marker 28 on the Loei-Dan Sai road at the boundary of Phu Rua and Muang districts of Loei province.

Five passengers - four men and one woman - were killed. About 40 others, one of them a Malaysian national, were injured.

They were taken to Loei and other hospitals nearby.

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

Bloody hell my missus was on the Loei to Chiang Mai (via Phu Rua & Dan Sai) bus on Friday night...... the last thing I said was "If you are scared the driver is dangerous, tell him to slow down, get some other passengers to back you up, don't let him ignore you."
Trouble is most Thai's are scared of anyone in authority, even a bloody bus driver, and would probably just sit there, silent and petrified.

The last big crash about a month ago, one of the passengers had complained and the monkey driving the bus had stopped and said that anyone who did not like his driving should get off. 20 minutes later he was dead, but he took about 10 passengers out of this life with him.

The police need to encourage passengers to speak out to the point of provoking a confrontation with a police response if necessary, and assure people as a matter of policy that the police will not allow them to be thrown off the bus for complaining and will arrest any driver that tries to physically force a passenger off a bus.

    ^ Quite agree.
The really scary thing is there are accidents which go unreported....... the missus said yes, she knew about this accident as her bus drove past this wrecked one (near Loei, she said), and when she got to Chiang Mai the whole station was buzzing with it.... but I pointed out that the accident in this post happened Monday 3rd.... she went home Friday 31st! Two bloody accidents on the same road 3 days apart?
That's it...... she's flying Chiang Mai to Udon in future, Dad can go pick her up.
