Interesting Chat with Thai Consulate Cardiff

I've just spoken to a chap at the consulate in Cardiff.

My Son and Partner (we're not married) are currently in Thailand and I'm at home working. I rang to see what my options were re: multiple entry visas.

I thought I was going to be told that because we aren't married I'd have to have a Triple entry tourist visa, however I was told that if my Mrs. writes to me inviting me to visit her and my son with a copy of the boys birth certificate I can get a 12 month Non Immigrant O visa.

I'd never heard of this before and it was a nice surprise. I might just be going over old ground i didn't search the forum, but if it helps anyone else then happy days.

    Al

This is actually not that unusual Alwarner.

The same thing happened to me at the Thai consulate in Brisbane 2 years ago. My GF and I are not married nor do we have any kids, but they gave me a 1 year non imm 'o' anyway. Only requirement was a letter from my GF and a bank statement as proof that I had enough $ to support myself.

That would be the one. A letter from the OPs partner and child's birth certificate should do the trick. I believe the visa is good for 90 days but can be extended for up to a year. Is that what you did Muffin?

Not sure i understand Norton. The visa was good for 15 months. Obviously every 3 months I had to do a border run.

OK. Understand. Your visa multiple entry for 15 months but you had to leave every 90 days.

I've had a few of those from Hull. Very convenient. Good to know Cardiff is issuing them too.

    Will they do postal?

Log on to the Thai Consulate HULL website. They give choices for evidential requirements. Print off their application pages if it suits, complete and send.

Last month (May 2011) i used a UK bank statement as evidence of funds, no letter from girlfriend/family. My application was processed and my passport returned with a non-immigration 'o' visa within 48 hours (45 hours actually). Fantastic service from TC Hull, well recommended.

Ref; Hull, I read somewhere that Hull were getting a bit harder on the old Non Imm "O" visas.

You're right Mr. Lick, they did offer a fantastic service.

    Really?

Thanks for that. It'd make the process a bit less time consuming not to need it!

i may still have a copy of it from her visa application a few years ago. As long as it's not dated i could still use it. Same passport etc...

4 weeks ago Hull refused my application for an "o" visa multiple entry, because i did not have my daughters birth certificate with me as evidence that i have family in Thailand.
I did send them a copy of both her Thai and English passport which was not sufficient.
I did get an "o " visa on 3 previous occasions but they clearly are not bothered with checking previous applications.
I was mighty pissed off as i flew back to that sh-t country for the purpose of getting my nice "o"visa and ended up with a sh-t tourist visa.
Before you say it,i could not get my misses to send it, as i had it locked away in a secure location which i had the key for.

Wanke-s i only want to look after my family with out all this shit,i am not some scum bag and i do not have any tattoos. Why do they keep changing the rules.
Ok i should of checked again before i left Thailand. Bollocks

Today my mum and dad just got Non Imm O 1 year visa's to come and see my family. No letter was needed, only proof of their pensions getting paid monthly. Just a few days by post. I was well surprised.

From the Glasgow consul. They contacted Hull as well but dad said it got complicated so stuck with Glasgow.

No need to contact the Thai Consulate in Hull, just log on to their website. www.thaiconsul-uk.com The requirement relating to income for those who are 50+ in order to obtain a non-immigrant 'o' visa is £900 per month. As a pensioner one merely needs to send a copy of a bank statement showing receipt of pension

    Other options are also available.

just had a chat with the Consulate

"Are you open tomorrow, i'd like to get a visa for Thailand"

    "we're fully booked"

"i didn't know i had to make an appointment"

    "when do you fly?"

    "Monday"

    "Shit"

    "Yeah"

"Get here at 09:30 tomorrow and I'll squeeze you in"

How nice is that. They guy has completely gone out of his way for me, lovely to see. Didn't expect any joy when he said they were fully booked.
