Thread: Nan Immigration. Extension of Stay. 2011.

Just done my yearly visit to Nan to get an extension.
The staff have changed and so of course have this years requirements, nothing drastic but it is nice to get all your ducks lined up before you go.

Firstly the application form.
You are now allowed to use a TM7 form downloaded from the immigration website.

Copy of passport picture page must be in colour.
Black & white not accepted. They have a copier there but 20 baht per page is a bit steep.

Map showing route from your house to the Immigration office is now needed every year but it is OK to print a map. It does not have to be hand written.

They now have a camera pointing at you during the interview and take pictures of you.
Fuck knows why, they must have about 60 pictures of me on file already.

Finally, they have a new website which contains practically no information but hopefully it will improve over time.

I was not impressed with the guy who used to handle the extension applications in Nan but he has been moved now and the woman that has replaced him is intelligent, polite and fair.

Even the boss came over and said hello which surprised me and he was genuinely gobsmacked when I gave him some whisky.

yes, I'm surprised they get away with this - that colour is not an international requirement.
GF got a new one - good service too less than a week from applying to issuing, still a b&w photo; applied/got a new Thai ID card same day as building for that was across the road - colour pic.

Yes, it's complete bollocks.
Some officers insist that the map is handwritten.
So if you cannot draw a map what happens, do you get refused permission to remain in Thailand ?
The officer doesn't know where your house is so you could draw a spiders web and he would have to accept it.
A complete waste of time.
