    ED Visa Question

hey everybody, i know I am probably flogging the dead horse, but pls. bear with me... I am looking into the ED Visa Q1. is the 1 year really guaranteed?
Q2. Anybody know if an additional year and a few more are guaranteed? (only 45 & cant get a retirement visa for a while) Q3. Dont the authorities want proof that you have enough money to sustain yourself while you are studying?
Has anybody got a clue of how to handle bringing a dog with me if a one year is possible. cant keep flying him around the world.
please share your knowledge.. pls. no opinions on bringing my dog, he has to come with me...South Africa is not a good place for us anymore.
    thanxs hoping to hear..

You will need a new letter every 90 days to state you are still learning, no idea how long you can get away with it though or how long your school will stay in business.

^ I'm sure that's about right, but I'm not sure if you need to 're-apply' for a 3 month visa every time or it's like a 3 month reporting on a 1 year visa.

I had an ED visa years ago, it was sorted out by a very connected Thai, and it was only for 3 months. I don't know of anyone who has had a 1 year ED visa, but I don't know many folk with that visa type at all, so I can't really say how easy or not a 1 year ED visa is.

It will all depend on your school/instituition, many of them blatantly lie; they will tell you a 1 year is okay, but how true that is might be a different matter...

Hopefully, another poster who has tried for a 1 year ED visa recently can offer their experience...

I was originally on an ED visa

Had to sign an attendance register after each Thai language class, countersigned by tutor.

Each 3mths had to attend Immigration, school would send a lady along with me, with their attendance book and a copy to accompany my application to ensure I got my renewal ok - had to pay 1900 baht for each 3mth extension and the school charged 100 for doing my paperwork.

This was Phuket at a guess other places operate differently, and of course
differences in school ethics as far as confirming attendance.

Only hassle I had was having to apply/pay for a re-entry permit when i wanted to leave the country for 'holiday' when I was supposed to be studying.

Looking at my passport, the original ED Visa had no expiry date, so maybe I could have continued to extend as long as I had a school's backup. It was granted on basis of me doing 200hrs [at]4hrs/week, so 1yr initially. Unsure if I'd re-enrolled in another course if I could have extended or needed to re-apply.
