Re-installing visas in a new passport

For some reason unknown to man, we decided to put my passport through the washing machine last night, so now I have to get a new one, which is no problem, but I need to know...

    a) Will immigration know when my non-imm visa is valid until and replace it accordingly?

    b) Do I need to go to immigration in Bangkok, or will a local office (in my case Udon Thani) be able to deal with it?

I don't know about Udon, but here in CM when you get a new passport they'll transfer your old visa for free into the new one. You don't get a full visa, but a stamp which they fill in with the details. I'm looking at mine now, and I can see the old passport number, when & where it was issued, visa type, how I entered the kingdom and when my first stamp was valid until.

Mind you, if they can't read any of that 'cos your old passport is mangled, fuck knows what they do. But they're gonna have to work something out, 'cos it must happen often enough.
The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.

Lost my passport with a non-imm 'b' visa. The passport got replaced in 10 working days by the UK embassy (now replacements are done in Hong Kong apparently still same 10 working day turn around). Turned up at Suan Phlu immigration (which has since moved) with new passport and they simply stamped the was existing Visa in ink

    So,

    a) Yes

    b) unsure, I'd phone ahead

I'd say it was lost, but either way i'd think that it could involve travelling to Bangkok UK embassy or using the nearest UK consulate and following such procedures as obtaining a police report, form filling and photos

You will have to go to British Embassy in bangers to get new passport won't you? Plan to go to Immigration in Bangkok when you pick it up as I know for sure they will do it without hassle.

I have to go to Bangkok to apply for the passport, yes, but I don' have to go there to pick up the new passport as they will mail it to me if I request it.

I'd rather not have to go to Bangkok twice. I'm also considering getting my lawyer to do the immigration stuff if I can't do it in Udon.

If some one can hopefuly clear this up but my opinion is that they can only send it back to a consulate and you should not have to use a lawyer as its a simple procedure

changed passports in 2007 while living in Isaan. Popped down to Khorat Immi. Took about half an hour. Lots of different stamps. Officer politely joked that I next time I go to another immi office.

(It isn't something they're used to doing everyday, so don't have everything at hand. He had to spend a few minutes thinking/moving. Clearly things he doesn't like doing.)

But no problem. They should have all your visa info on their computer system.

If the washed passport visa and entry stamp is legible then no problem. If not then could be a problem.

For the new pp, you can download an application form and apply by post. Don't think you need to travel to BKK.

Applying by post (Fee must be the exact amount only)

You can apply to renew a full or expired passport by post. You must ensure that the passport application form is correctly filled in and that both the form and one of the photos have been countersigned. You must include your passport and can only pay in the following ways:

    • Banker's Draft plus Baht 200 administration fee;
    • Money or Postal orders payable to 'British Embassy' to be cashed at Nana Post Office, Bangkok 10112 (Please note that online postal orders are not accepted).
To return passport by the Express Mail Service (EMS) please add Baht 100 for within Thailand or Baht 500 if it is to be returned to Laos.

Our staff will not be able to process your application or there may be a delay issuing your passport if:
    • you have used the wrong form or completed it incorrectly
    • you do not provide the correct fee or payee
    • you do not include the correct postal or courier charge.

OK, you do if your passport is lost or stolen. But it doesn't mention washing machines.

I had only just arrived back from Laos, so no time to get a copy.

Only have the cover and the laminated page left. Everything else has gone.
