Bringing wifes daughter to the UK

    Hi all

As title says basically i have a problem by where my now wife was married before as most thai women are at village level so no marriage was recorded by which they had a daughter who is now 9 years old . At one year my now wife left her thai husband and has untill i met her been bringing the child up alone with no help or contact from the father . The problem is the daughter has her real fathers family surname not my wifes surname before she changed it to my family name when we married.

She has contacted the father explaning the situation even offering money for him to sign the paperwork but he refuses

I admit not to be the best at explaining things on paper but i hope someone on here has had experience or has gone threw this themselves and can help

    thanks in advance

When your wife divorced her Thai husband (legal seperation) didn't she also arrange legal sole parenthood for her daughter.

I also had a similar situation but did not have a problem when getting my wifes son a passport as she, and the boys father had agreed on and signed some documents.

My wifes son's surname is still the same as his natural fathers.

As far as I am aware, You will have to go to court, and prove your wife has brought your daughter up alone with no help from the father (If he wont play ball). As LT says you will need to obtain sole custody papers, and that means getting ex hubby to sign. Either by paying him out, or going to court.

    Try Thailand-UK Website
Theres quite a few guys over there, who have gone through similar situations.

    Good luck.
I aint superstitious, but I know when somethings wrong

Agree with the advice about Thailand-UK.com (well I would, I'm a member) and you will get expert advice there for free.

I can't tell from your post if your wife is now in the UK or not? If yes, it's not just about sole responsibility and I think Amphurs can be quite helpful there, but also about who has been responsible for decisions about the childs upbringing whilst mum's 1000's of miles away. You're gonna have to demonstrate what's wrong with the status quo?

I think age wise, it's okay, I think over 12 there are issues (I'm no expert), but as has been said, many have achieved this. Best get the right advice first to get it right as it's not cheap.

Don't use a Thai based UK advisor, the same forum carries some horror stories including one where a guy paid something like 2k in fees for an application that could not succeed as it did not meet any criteria for a visa to be issued in the first place!

Edit - sorry, just noticed you're in Swindon, I guess that counts as being in the UK!
