The property, which we plan to turn into a bar/ restaurant, once had a river running along one side of it.

The council have now redirected the river flow and they filled in the land along the wall enough so I can now drive a motor bike, or a small car to the rear of the property.

And now, and as I have easy access to this area, I am breaking down walls, fitting sliding gates and rebricking the wall.

A lot more fun when compared to sitting in the immigration office for hours.

I have experienced good and bad luck here in LOS but the work that the council have done, at their expense, has given us so much more land area.

This thread makes me grateful that I applied for and received one of the first LTR-Retiree (Long Term Resident visa - not to be confused with a Permanent Resident status).

Simply by documenting my retirement income from U.S. Social Security and a local government pension totaling more than USD 80K per year and providing a brokerage statement showing more than USD 100K in an IRA I received a 5-year permission to stay with a multiple re-entry permit, The address report for staying in the Kingdom is now yearly rather than 90-days. - at five-years I can renew for a further five-years by providing the same documentation, getting me to 84-years old.

No requirement to have a single satang in a Thai Bank or show what I live on here. As an added bonus I got to 'liberate' the ThB 800K from Bangkok Bank which I always considered owning a car I couldn't use and took it to our local dealer and bought my wife her next/last car.

I don't miss the trip up to the provincial capital to sit awaiting my submittal to be reviewed and accepted nor do I miss the glitchy software they have for 90-day reports - I never had 'big' headaches - just the low-grade tension headache as the day approached.

If i hadn't taken my 30's and 40's off, maybe i'd be in the same situation but

I was fortunate to bracket my two periods of low-income (daycare teacher in my twenties and graduate school in my forties) with two well paid ~15-year careers in my thirties and fifties.

You, or your agent, found a visa that met your desires, you provided the required documentation to the TIO and were issued the visa.

I did not know that this option existed in Thailand. I more than meet the qualifications you posted. I would love to learn more about this.

I just want to clarify that I was speaking of the 'wealthy retiree' LTR which is dead simple - no investment needed, actually disinvestment if one had a 400/800K account hostage for a marriage or retiree extension. For those who were lucky enough to qualify for that category it was an easy decision to throw off the shackles of annual extensions and 90-day reports (much less annual photos of you and your spouse sitting on their bed - who though up that requirement).

Some of the inanity of life here as an alien will remain (land holding, working as a hairdresser, etc.) but it is a much more relaxed life than jumping through whatever hoops are placed in front of one such as happened with O-A holders suddenly needing to purchase Thai health insurance.
