What documents do I need to extend my retirement visa?

    Good morning.

I am planning to extend my retirement visa next month and this will my first extension.

I am aware you need to have at least 800,000.00 Baht in your bank account confirmed by your bank manager in writing.

I am also required to have photocopies of my passport and arrival card as well as the 90 day report document.

Also recent passport size photos are required.

What I am not aware of, and as laws change, is there any other documents needed?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Is your visa a non imm OA or a non imm O?

If OA you will need med insurance.

800k in bank at least 3 months before you apply for extension. A letter from bank dated same day you apply for extension, bank book updated same day you apply as well. Ie, go to bank before you go to immigration.

    3 passport photos,

    3 copies passport pages.

    I renew my O-X in a few months. Shouldn’t be a problem.

Cheers everyone for your response, and according to what Gallowspole advised in his PM, every department interpret the rules differently, so I will go to the Pattaya Immigration first and find out their interpretation.

^^ Yes, good idea LT. I've never extended a retirement visa but when extending a marriage visa at Korat I've been knocked back by issues such as filling out the forms in black ink instead of blue ink, etc etc. This is one reason I now use an agent.

^ Yes Mendy I also cannot stand the frustration of dealing with unreasonable people.

I spoke to an agent and they want 8,000 baht to do something I could do myself.

If push comes to shove I will get an agent to do it.

8k bht is cheap LT. A few I know that use them cough up about 13k to 15k. Of course with agents you never know when they will disappear.

I just did my annual marriage visa extension. 1900 bht and took about 45 minutes.

As for blue ink versus black. Nowadays it's always best to use Blue for every document you fill out or sign. I tossed all my black pens a few years ago to avoid forgetting and using one.

Good Luck LT. Should be pretty straight forward.

    Happy New Year

^ Not having the funds in the bank pushes the Agent price to a ridiculous level.

Thanks for your best wishes and god speed to everyone in 2023.

If there's an emergency issue, PM me and I should be able to get it sorted.

Alternatively, use blue ink and do as they say - you'll save about 20k or so.

    Every year.

^ They previously demanded black ink... changed with no notice. Maybe back to black ink now... it keeps the photocopy shop across the road busy. Ker ching...

    That's surprising.

I thought it had been blue ink everywhere since forever.

Me too Cyrille. I have always been told has to be blue ink. However as we all know, every immigration office will apply what rules they want or not really pay attention.

My wife and I use the package template we developed 3 years back making it a cake walk. If any changes we get the new information and update the template.

^^^ Try Korat, the demands change with the weather.

I could have handled the officialdom but the reason I started using an agent was because the immigration office was so in flexible in allowing me to renew my extension early. I could have stayed in Thailand an extra three weeks until their designated earliest date for renewal and lost a couple of months work, or left for work and be faced with having no visa for my return to Thailand. This would have meant on completion of the job, flights to London/Oslo wherever an embassy was open, cost of hotels and then the cost of a flight back to Thailand which wouldn't have then been covered by work. And all during Covid lock downs and applying for the Thailand Pass with no visa, etc etc.

The cost of an agent saved me a small fortune.

That photocopy shop is closed now. It was a coffee shop last time I was there.

If DIY route that I use I get a few extra copies of all my documents plus a glue stick extra photos and a blue and back pen.
My office has reverted to black this year.

After many years of repeat trips to copy shop outside and odd photo moan I finally got my annual renewal down to 50 minutes this year

I've had work marriage and retirement extensions and as others note each office or officer seems a law unto themself

No more home visits for now for me as I think the two 30ish officers have discovered better "free cafes' and know they wont get a free malt or shakedown( I I made a crucial error once in giving TOT guy good whiskey once, the word got round, and its taken years to wear off I'm a soft touch)

My embarrassed wife gives them each pack of cheap biscuits when its all sealed adding about 50 baht to the 1900 fee plus around 200 for all the pix, copies of every single page of my passport.

I also stock up on forms for next year while waiting , my new office has air con free wifi comfy seating free tea and water, if they go too slow I start fingering their biscuit packets.......Luckily last 3 years I have benn sole customer and half the very few local farangs have died , moved on or gone overstay I guess.

As others advise probably asking them with a Thai speaking witness their requirements as they seem reluctant to specify in writing so as to leave wiggle room

Good Luck LT less than A$100 a year to roam free in Pieland , living the dream.

That I can believe Mendy. I think we have all experienced trying moments with Thai Immigration. Early on when I was living in Cha Am the Hua Hin immigration was just awful. Took me nearly 2+ hrs to just do a check in and the immigration officers were frustratingly clueless.

Now its actually a pleasant easy experience.

Alternatively, 18,000-20,000 baht should ensure a successful outcome without the tiresome inconvenience of qualification.
