Thousands who signed up for Thailand Pass receive scam email

Just wanted to put some awareness out there if you or someone you know has signed up for Thailand Pass.

Thousands who signed up for Thailand Pass receive scam email - Thai Enquirer Current Affairs

Thousands of people, both Thais and foreigners, who signed for the country’s Thailand Pass program received a fraudulent phishing email asking for personal details.
The emails, which were sent out over the past several days, asked the recipient for their details including their full name, their date of birth, and the last four digits of their passports.
Authorities are advising those who receive the email to not respond to the queries and to delete and block the address.
The Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which runs the Thailand Pass program, have said previously that security was of the utmost importance and that previous personal data leaks linked to the program had been fixed.
Calls to the government spokesman on Tuesday were not immediately returned. The Prime Minister’s Office said they were unaware of the incident and would investigate. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately return calls regarding the incident.

Gosh, whoudda thunk it? A Thai computerised process is compromised and becomes a vehicle for fraud.

Essentially, if it can b fucked up in Thailand, it will.

i received my scam request for personal info just 30 minutes ago.

the thailand pass site is a horrorshow.

THAILAND PASS "ERROR IN API SERVER"? HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT.

    1st NOVEMBER 2021

Thailand embarrassing efforts at a tourist registration website failed miserably. We've got two things you can do that will ensure you get a "Submitted Successfully" message

Thailand's government IT hacks embarrassed themselves again Monday, rolling out a broken Thailand Pass registration website after a massive buildup and hype about its central role in powering the country's reopening to foreign tourism.

But there's a fix. Read on.

The government's info-tech efforts long have had a putrid reputation for crashes, dysfunction, data leaks and hacks. Thailand Pass surpassed all prior flops.

The system, which replaces the paper certificate of Entry to allow fully vaccinated foreign tourists to enter the country with minimal quarantine and lots of hassle and cost, suffered from its first moments with system timeouts, missing dropdown menus and stupefying design flaws.

The showstopper for nearly everyone was an "advanced programming interface", or API error at final submission. if you managed to make it to the last page, you were thwarted by an error that is the result of piss poor programming. Pure and simple.

Thais coded this web app, so why should they consider anyone who isnt Thai. That apparently was the thinking of the monkeys at the keyboards. They programmed the site to accept Thai government ID card numbers in the passport field, even though passport numbers are shorter.

of course, the site doesn't throw up an error pointing to this flaw, but people figured it out. Put an extra space or two and your application will go through without the dreaded "API SERVER ERROR" message and the loss of all your inputs.

The error in the Thailand Pass app. may also be tied to a very technical problem related to javascript security in your web browser called CORS or "cross origin resource sharing". CORS is blocked in modern browsers by default in their Javascript APIs.

Thailand's crack programmers used the technique anyway, even freshmen web programming students would know better.

One solution is to use Googles Chrome browser to submit your Thailand Pass application, using a free extension called ALLOW CORS.

Thailand Pass 'Error in API Server'? Here's How to Fix It - Bangkok Herald.

that article was written last november, but the errors are still there.

passport numbers are accepted, but the API error still haunts the process as i found out last week. i spent over 3 hours collating documents, photographing documents, changing pdf files into jpegs, uploading them only to lose the lot when the dreaded API ERROR message appeared when i pressed send.

eventually i found the workaround as described above, downloaded the CORS extension, uploaded the whole lot again and successfully completed our applications. now we are waiting for the approvals to come through, although in the meantime we have both received scam e mails claiming to be from the thailand pass site.

Does this really need a separate thread?

It's been discussed already in a different thread.

Why so long? Use Adobe Scan for your passport and it'll convert to a Jpeg, the other PDFs you can convert to Jpegs quickly using any one of numerous free conversion tools. I did mine inc upload in about 30 mins

I use adobe scan on the phone, it finds the edges of your document itself - great piece of kit. The PDF to Jpeg converter is also easy. You only need a printer for printing the documents you are going to take with you to show on boarding and at imi checks in Thailand.

The avatar is the Antarctic Halley VI Research Station, they built this one specifically so they could move it.

i detest unnecessary and excessive bureaucracy of any kind, and especially the thai kind. but that seems to be the world today, paperwork, passwords, permissions, process and protocols.

i lived in thailand for 15 or so years before covid and the thai authorities must already have multiple copies of everything they need from me, so having to jump through their silly hoops yet again in the knowledge that some gormless bug-munching civil servant at the other end could refuse my application for no other reason than a blurred or missing pixel on a document is infuriating to say the least.

they built this one specifically so they could move it.
i watched a fascinating documentary on its construction.

As I understand the current Thai thinking, yes, I know, a fucking oxymoron, they are to abandon all COVID entry controls by Jun/Jul.

Postpone and enjoy a nice Blighty Spring.
