Renewing an AUS passport in Thailand.

Well, lets see how this goes.
    So far, the facts are,
    Retirement Visa expires Jan 2022
    Passport expires in Dec 2021
Next 90 days is due around Nov 10
I went to the Aus Consul in Chiang Mai on Sept 15.
Great communications from the consul to set up an appointment and what to bring.
The consul advised me that the typical Thai style photo will not be accepted, And yes when I rocked up with that photo, he knew as did I that the embassy won't accept it, so off to a recommended photo shop only 5 minutes away, and he sent off all the paperwork.
I get a phone call on Tuesday, She sais, did you get the email i sent you? (I dont check emails every day)
The email stated that the debit card I used failed to secure the funds, ( Bangkok Bank) she stated that they have this problem with BB often and I should go into the branch to try and rectify.
I get in the car, drive into town and go to a branch the that Thai Immigration sais can speak English, The ladies are great for help but the end result is over the phone "We will not authorize a payment unless you are physically present".
So, back home again and send a reply email to the embassy in Bangkok to explain the situation, This is like an hour drive in and then another hour drive home.

Wow, this is going to be a fascinating thread, months of banter, heartache, suicidal thoughts, bureaucratic nightmares...

Now! Spell "Authorise" correctly, you're not from the USA. I won't even begin with the rest of the spelling, but, like me you're from OZ, so it's quite normal
    Onya Cobber....

Certainly more exciting than my Aus passport renewal a few months back.

Arrived at embassy 10 mins before my appointed slot.

Nobody there so got called straight up to the counter.

Exceptionally cute well spoken Thai lady approx 28yrs old.... delicious.

She checked over my paperwork and declared it all in order, whipped out my Kasikorn credit card and that cute thai girl raped the shit out of it, did not even give it a kiss when done.

all sorted and the new passport arrived in the mail a few weeks later.

The Meth One's Fuck The Best !!

Ok, so now i'm thinking i'm f-cked, I have to drive down to Bangkok to renew, I send off emails and call the AUS dfat line on the contact us number.
Then at about 1;00pm the embassy calls back, blah blah blah. She asks "Is there anyone there that can help?' OK my brother in law is staying with me, doesnt speak a word of English, and my Thai is crap, They worked out via an email sent to me by her, onto my laptop he took a pic from his phone of the QR code then we went to the ATM and I transfered money to his acc and he paid the fee via his bank.
2 hours later she calls, How did it go? Yes all done, I sent you an email with a screenshot of the reciept an hour ago,
She find's it, sais ok Ill send that off, now how are we going to do the interview, do you have skype or line?

I renewed my daughter's Aussie passport in Bangkok last year and I think I know who you're talking about... yeah!

The only issue was that I'd attached the passport photos to the form with a paperclip which had left a small mark, and the 'exceptionally cute Thai lady' thought the application might get knocked back in Australia because of this.

I decided to risk it, it wasn't knocked back and the passport arrived in the post a few weeks later.

^ NO Mandip, She was so helpful, She explained the whole shit show to my brother inlaw, he had never used QR code banking before.
She was f-ing great, not like Bangkok Bank, just came strait out and said "You have to be there in person" so we can send a confirmation code.
So that;s what happened,on that call back about arranging a skype or line video call, she sais . Oh I see you went to visit Ron in ChiangMai for the application,, Yes mam I did , Oh that's ok then we don't need to do that.
And here I was thinking,(Man If was a black dood trying to get into the USA I could walk rite in and then get assistance too, us white blokes have it hard)
    ^ that's a joke, for you lefties
The guy in Chiang Mai (Ron)was very nice, helpful and accommodating
The Thai lady from the Embassy was very nice, helpful and understanding.
All this was done from Lampang province,Through ChiangMai,to Bangkok and now I'm waiting on Australia to authorize me a new Passport.
So I will update the thread if anything happens from here on in.

All shitfuckery asside, The passport arrived on about the 6-OCT, I had no notification by email from the Embassy of the new number and no contact by phone before the postie dropped it off, so then I went to the Imm office to get the Visa transfered, they made an appointment for me and today was the day, Got there at 0950 for a 1000 appointment, was seen to in around 5 minutes and then out at 1150, almost 2 hours. Started to fall asleep in the chair at one point, then a really sexy looking Immigration lawyer came in with half a dozen young ladies, FFFFFFFfff, ok back to it, they actually stamped the new Passport with a signed and dated Thai version of the important old entries, IE, the latest entry, the origional visa etc, all up was/is 7 new stamps all in Thai, took up 4 pages, cost nothing and i have to go back in 2 weeks for a 90 day. One other thing, If you are from The USA you will need some type of letter from your Embassy explaining the reason for the new passport, Both times I was there they asked me for the Embassy letter, and I said I had an Aussy passport they said OK you don't need it.

Well getting your Oz passport renewed in Thailand is easy enough (I've done it twice, + UK passport too). Not much use to you here though- you are not allowed any interstate travel unless fully vaxxed. Reckon you're better off staying in the boonies.

I had to point out my spelling of fluctuate^ up there, it just seems funny enough to leave it alone. And I honestly have no intention of ever returning to Aus, The place was going to shit as I left,

So why bother renewing your passport then? Believe me, we can deal with it.

Sorry mate, I don't understand the premise of the question, Obviously I need a passport to legally live in Thailand as an expat, doesn't matter what type of visa, It's not the same as the USA over here, you can't just walk across the border and expect free housing healthcare, education and whatever, its more like Australia, no illegal immigration is tolerated in Thailand, they find you living here illegally you will be deported.

I figured you had a US passport. But I'm afraid an aussie passport will be no substitute for your vaccine passport, even in Oz!
