Extension of Stay Based on Marriage Question

I'm applying for the extension of stay in just over 2 months and I've already sent 40K (twice) to my Bangkok bank which both say 'International Transfer' and I'm about to send a further 320000 to make the total up to 400K (then leave the BALANCE as 400K for 2 months as they require

Getting a bit paranoid because hate the hoops they get you to jump through and my wife gets really upset when they come up with extra requirements etc so just not looking forward to it. We have all of the other requirements such as original marriage certificate, TM30, drawn map, rental agreement

I'm guessing though that the big one is the money and they probably won't make any other silly obstacles once they see that? (such as the 400K all has to be sent in one go from abroad)

They won't fine tooth comb my transactions asking why Ive sent bits to my other Kasikorn bank (for grocery bill) and also my wife wanted to send 35K from her saving account because she hasn't got a debit card to spend it

I think you are getting a little bit worked up over nothing. However in saying that I can only refer to my experiences which are with Buriram Immigration office.
You don't say which office you will be dealing with which is an important piece of information if you want others to provide advice/experiences.

In my case they have never worried about any transactions only about whether the balance has remained about 400K.
In fact they have questioned my friend because he has NO transactions, they asked him what does he live on.

Whenever I apply for an annual extension I make sure my balance is well above 400K and then make periodic withdrawals leading up to the application day but making sure it never gets below the magical 400K mark.

One thing you haven't listed in what you have prepared is a TM? (sorry can't remember the number) which is obtained from your local Or Bor Tor that states your marriage is registered with them and still valid, make sure it is not too old, so less than 6 months maybe.
Also don't forget to obtain a bank letter and statement on the day you apply, get them to give a statement for the previous 4 months so there is no question about it covering the required 3 months.

    Good luck.

My agent guy deposited 100 baht into my account on the day we applied and updated the bank book in a book update machine.

richie, Do you have photos of the two of you inside the house?

Hi guys, I will be applying at CW BKK, @Ootai Yes I have the Kor Ror 22 updated last month and we tried the income method first with advice from TVF that only 2 months of x40K would work but it didn't. The Officer said come back with 400K. Thanks, I read in another thread that it can actually help to have a lot of transactions to show the account is being used so I will start paying my bills and also transfer extra money into it...it should look great then when June rolls around.

@Ootai, it says on the the requirement list the officer showed that it only has to be 2 months. Are you sure the letter from the bank has to be on the day you apply, I thought it was just the bank book on the day? I always fine this a pain to get on the day as you want to get to the I/O as early as possible?

@Vocal, yes I took photos around the house and in front of the house door with the number.

Good advice here from VocalNeal. I had forgotten that bit. I always go to the ATM and withdraw 100 baht before I go into the bank to get the statement and letter and I have them update my passbook at the same time. The Immigration guys like to see the balance as at the day you apply.

If you are still concerned go into the Immigration branch you will be applying at and ask them what THEY want you to present.

Get the reply in written form. Take a photo of the officer which includes the form and his name tag.

It "reduces" the number of surprises.

Hmm, expect the unpredictable if you aim a camera at an IO for verification purposes.

I believe that when you apply for the extension the first time you only need to show 2 months of having the money in the bank but for each time after that it is 3 months.
I always operate on the fact that more is better and use 4 months.
And yes where I go to the I/O they want the letter and passbook update to be the same date as when you apply. Luckily it is not a problem for me as I have to drive past the bank on the way to Buriram I/O so stop off and get that stuff as I go. I have to drive 70kms to get there so I don't want to make any return trips for stuff I forgot.

Maybe you can get someone to go to the I/O for you to hold a spot in the queue while you get the letter etc. from the bank?

Anyway let us know how you get on.

I tried the 2 month method at CW with advice from TVF and they weren't having any of it... I even printed off a copy of the police order UBJ gave me and highlighted the section.... and read it to them in Thai . She said only 12 months or 400K

I love the way they demand a map of the home address with the route to the nearest immigration office drawn in. It's just so quaint and clearly they have no insight into the implication that their officers are so stupid and illiterate they cannot use a map themselves. Surely, even immigration are now aware of Google maps?

I believe that being correct if its your first Retirement Extension.

You can deposit 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank and it must be deposited at least 2 months before the first visa is applied for.

At my local IO a mapping application printout and a house Lat/Long, are not welcomed.

Hand drawn, straight lines, local police station and Wats are the only valid method of embellishment. Along with a signature, a contact number and official postal address.

As you are aware different officers require different strokes and next year, a head office diktat, will be implemented on different dates.

Our local Thai agricultural office is just the opposite, google map co-ordinates of the farm's boundary are compulsory. Allegedly there should be a concrete stamped marker post, at every change of direction. Good luck with finding them in the jungle farms! I believe the area of the farm is used to calculate rice/rubber handouts to the registered "owner". Not being one the money never reaches my pocket.
