Savannakhet Non-O (Retirement) visa document question

Hi all. I have posted this question on other sites but no one seems to be able to provide a clear answer. I thought I would give the this forum a go there might be a few retirees here who may have actually done a non-O visa based on retirement at Savannakhet.

This question is addressed to anyone who has recently gone to Savannakhet to get a non-O visa based on retirement. Information on non-O visas based on marriage or some other reason will not help as they have different requirements than the one I am looking for.

The requirements set out on the consulate web page are:

    Required documents

    1. Visa application form [Download] which is completely filled out and signed by the applicant
    2. Original passport or travel document (must not expire within 180 days and contain at least two complete empty visa pages) and A copy of passport (The page(s) shows the applicant’s photo, name, date, and place of birth and the expiration date of passport)
    3. Two (2) photos of the applicant (3.5 x 4.5 cm, taken within 6 months)
    4. Bank statement (minimum of THB 800,000) or Certification of Income (minimum of THB 65,000 monthly)
    5. Official letter from the concerned Embassy/Consulate of applicant's nationality
    6. Visa Fee: 2,000 Baht (Single Entry)

All the requirements are clear except for No. 5. I have no idea what is meant and no one on any of the other sites I have checked seems to know what is meant either. A Thai speaker has provided a translation of item 5 from the Thai version which states: "5. Certificate of retirement from the embassy of that person with that nationality" and which is a bit different than the English version but it is still unclear. Is it a sworn statement stating that I am retired? Is it about pension income?

I have emailed the Thai consulate in Savannakhet asking about it but have received no response.

Everything else seems pretty straightforward, however, I would really appreciate any information about what form/letter you used for number 5 - and that was accepted in Savannakhet - from folks that have actually done a non-O (retirement) visa recently.

    Many thanks

    David

I can't really help you by providing an answer to your question.
However I would ask this, "are you going to use the income method or the Lump sum method re financials?
If you are using the lump sum (TB800,000) then you can eliminate the worry about point 5 being a letter to support your income.
That only then leaves has it anything to do with whether you are retired or not. I can't really believe they would be asking such a question as who cares, the only thing that would matter to them is that you are not planning to work and as a consequence have enough money to support yourself without working.

    Sorry for not really helping.

If you are a UK citizen.

Not applied for your visa type, but it maybe an embassy letter certifying your passport is genuine.

    Certified copies of British Passports

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/notarial-and-documentary-services-guide-for-thailand#certified-copies-of-british-passports

You can download the forms, pay the money with a credit card and mail your, passport, application form and payment receipt to, or book an appointment at, the UK embassy in Bangkok. There website or notarial office staff are very clear on the required info and procedure.

Which may then need to be "officially" translated and "officially" stamped by the Thai Ministry of Foreign affairs. Which can take a few days. Bangkok translators are useful at the running around. Thai authorities requested one for a different type of application, I made in the summer.

Best to get clarification from Savannakhet, it's a long way to go and have to return, if your not properly prepared. I would also suggest telephoning rather than emailing.

As you have been dealing with this very recently may I ask ....... is a Non_O Visa Based on Retirement a multi-entry visa ?
I mean can I go out to Singapore for a week and come back on that same visa ? And a few weeks later go to Australia for 4 weeks and come back in without difficulty ?

    With Thanks .

For the last 6 months or so the thai consulate in Savannakhet has stopped issuing 90 day single entry Non-O visas based on being over 50 (and AFAIK they never issued year-multi-entry Nono-O's for that reason).
Right now to get a 90 day single entry Non-O based on being over 50 you can use Vientiane (with a medical certificate, a police background check, a letter from your consulate stating you're retired and proof of funds) OR Penang (with just proof of funds in a thai or foreign bank) OR you can get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement) from the thai consulate in Kota Bharu with only 380K baht in the bank ( i know a squirrelly amount but that's what they require).
