a new bank plus immigration rule.

yesterday the wife went to our bank, land and house to order my letter of confirmation of my bank balance for next weeks visit to imm.for my yearly retirement extension.the past 7yrs.the wife picks up the letter after I sign a bank form giving her permission to receive it without me having to go to the bank myself to collect it.SORRY NOT ANYMORE,i have to go to the bank myself, have my photo taken by the bank when I sign for the letter to confirm its ME and not ANYONE ELSE.so is this another nail in the agents coffin with the banks working or trying too with immigration, anyone else know about this.

come on VC that is a silly question when the letter has to be addressed to the commander of immigration.the letter is a must to be able to get your extension every year.

I thought the bank letter, confirming funds, had to be written on the same day as applying for ones extension?

as my account is for a fixed term,it hasn't been touched for the last 7years,they imm.seem to accept it.land /house bank in the mall don't open till 11am.then it takes ahour to get the letter typed, but as the letter is dated the day before I have never had a problem 10yrs.

the thai authorities get a great kick out of making foreigners jump through hoop after hoop after hoop in order to comply with the ever more obtuse regulations they dream up.

once they put on that dirt brown uniform, with its tawdry medals and meaningless epaulettes and they and take up station at their desks, cluttered as they always are with rubber stamps and multicoloured inkpads, phones and cameras, pens and pencils, infantile plastic cartoon characters and half eaten plates of sticky rice, they become suddenly imbued with an amount of self important authority and supremacy that they could never achieve out of uniform, dominated as they are by their wives, mothers in law, and the thai social system in general.

.... but here in the immigration office they are the kings, les fromages grandes, wielding power over us dirty foreigners, all of us under suspicion of some meaningless infringement or other, how they despise us, the low life criminals, the scruffy unshaven tattooed oiks with their young thai wives, the grovelling sycophants begging for an extension or some flexibility of the regulations, those alien devils who think they are back home and must be treated as equals and have rights.

the uniform gives them power, and they will use it with glee.

meanwhile the foreigner, dejected by falling exchange rates, demoralised by decreasing health, disheartened by lower pensions, dispirited by poor interest rates and slowly losing the will to live must bend their knees, tug their forelocks, doff their caps and grovel embarrassingly to the powers that increasingly seek to control each and every aspect of our lives.

oh how the mighty are fallen.

Friend does 65k monthly and as of 2 weeks ago same as always. A printout of years monthly bank statement signed by bank officer. No pics asked for.

I know what I would do. Ask to speak to the bank manager. Tell them that your wife is going to pick up the letter and if they don't want to do what you ask, you will take all of your money out and go to the bank down the street that will. I've done this in the past for a similar roadblock that they tried. Took the bank manager one second to agree with my wishes and give me what I needed.

As we are aware, the IO can ask for anything they wish. Non compliance is not an option.

i opened bank accs.in the 80's with no problem.now even with 4accs.with the same bank, LH. tried to put in 500k.3months ago, this is what i was told.
you have to go to immg.get a letter from them,as i have to get a taxi.cost both ways total 700bht.immg.fee.on top just for opening another acc.WITH MY MONEY.
go to another bank its the same old answer, work permit,at krung thai i have an e-wallet where my tax refund goes into, they too didnt want to open one either.
i am begining to loose faith in anything that involves thai sociaty, but moving at 75yrs.old is out of the question.never ever over 35yrs.have i had to plead guilty TOOOOOOO.
as for an alternative THERE ISNT ONE.

Why the F**** would you want a "fifth" bank account?
At 75 all you would be doing is risking forgetting you have it. Surely you can rearrange the way you use your curent 4 accounts to accomodate what you think you need the fifth one for.

I have been here almost 20 years and have only ever had 1 bank account and never have I had an issue with the bank or Immigration (I'm on a "married" Visa).

Maybe the reason I don't have any issue is the Missus just opens bank accounts in her name if she thinks she needs another one and if I wanted to I would use one of hers.
Maybe that is why I don't have an issue because I trust her to have "our" money in "her" account.

all my accs.bar one are for fixed terms the other is a current acc.where the interest goes into[monthly] some are for 3yrs.others 1yrs.and acc.for health cover if needed.also we like to spread it about, with the wife having accs.at 4different banks, our pensions go into a current acc.yearly from the uk.as we don't have any credit cards the transfers from the uk.to Thailand were done via a card reader so that alone goes into one acc.in Thailand which was set up 12yrs.ago which is easy, but to transfer to another is a no no as the card readers date has expired.so I am going to BITE THE BULLET.
maybe a good agent would help.555555555555.

Same basics with me ootai. I opened a BKK bank acct back in 2005. Still have it and use it. I only wanted 1 here but later had to open a SCB acct for the company I went to work for as that's where they deposited payroll. When I finished the contract with the company, I kept the SCB acct to show proof of the 400K bht for annual extensions and to have the auto withdraw for the monthly water bill. My wife goes in the day she does my annual extension application, asks to get the statement printed out and signed by the SCB rep and all done. Takes 10 minutes tops. I think the issue HH is having is that the acct used for the extension application has to show usage and activity. Being fixed term there is no activity except interest. If I was HH, I would simply convert one of the fixed accts into a daily use acct. Opening up another one seems messy and unnecessary.

As you say it is not that difficult. The way I manage my account is that I use it regularly, to show useage and then 4 months before I am due for an extension I get the Missus to transfer enough money to ensure I will meet the 400K for the Visa. That might mean topping the account up to 700K so as i can continue using it.
Come extension time, I get the Missus to call the bank branch Manager and organise a letter for Immigration as well as a statement of the previous 3 months activity, making sure I have made a transaction that day prior to updating the book and getting the statement.
This way if they ever ask where the funds come from I just say overseas as it doesn't show on the statement and until they change the rules (quite possible) then the statement doesn't show the deposit as it was before the statement period.

Some people get all upset about the process but I enjoy the drive up to Buriram where I can go and get a burger then go and see a mate of mine have a chat (in English) and then drive home. Nice day out although others might consider it boring and a pain in the butt.

    @ ootai,
Yeah its pretty easy. If you have an acct you use it. The more activity the better as they see you are living here. Our acct (I'm like you here on a Marriage extension) never dips below the 400k baht. We seem to keep it at 600k. This way there is no big lump deposit activity. I move money from my BKK acct to the SCB. My wife occasionally uses SCB to buy something to get a discount.

I will say one thing that is a bit of an annoyance for me is that you can't pay all your bills with one bank. Water companies only want SCB, PEA is BKK Bank and my wifes life insurance policy is KTC. So we have them set up to do the auto-withdrawal process and I get notified on the app on my phone. I would like to use 1 bank for all. Someday...maybe

I have zero issues with the extension process. Takes about 2 hours at home to put the packet together, quick stop at the bank the day of and my wife and I usually have a lunch and then off to Immigration. I do wish I had a few buddies up in Lampang area to meet up with and have lunch. I am living down Sattahip way now for work and have met a few moto rider guys.

Happily for me, I am not stuck there against my wishes, or tied in any way to a country that I despise, living among people that I find loathsome and stupid.

Unlike you, I am not an anachronism, and I have choices that don’t involve leaving a shrinking asset behind, if I am to pursue other options.

I have been on a retirement visa/ext for several years, each time taking along a bank letter with the other docs for the extension like a good little farang. Three visits ago, that is before the new requirements were installed, the IO returned my bank letter to me saying it is not needed; I countered that I've been bringing one along each year for over a decade, and she replied it's not needed because I have an embassy letter confirming income.

Didn't make sense to me though few things do nowadays, and it's pointless chasing as it would likely end up with me at the pointed end, so on both of my following visits I decided to take a bank letter as reserve but not submit it unless asked, which I was each time.

That's as it was, nothing to debate, could've been a blind spot or just another IO that doesn't know the rulez.

just another IO that doesn't know the rules.my last extension [10th] I have produced the same, letter confirming over 1million bht.in a fixed acc.which has never been touched, bank book confirms this, also the letter from the bank.this new IO wouldn't have none of it and I will not issue your visa ex.unless I get a statement for the full yr.i told her I have never had a problem before, her answer was all the previous IO'S got it wrong,i did have a job to keep my cool,so the wife phoned the bank manager who then spoke to the IO who told me the bank manager speak no good and it was not a bank that was fully owned by thai, raceism was creeping in as iwas then told next ext.you will need a mandatory health ins.but it MUST BE WITH A THAI OWNED CO. not ais as I told her at 75 with heath problems as long as your arm, ais wouldn't cover me,again her reply they are not thai owned.my bank LH.were good as they got a member of staff to deliver a supposed statement which dosnt show any transactions with a fixed acc.that hasn't been touched.luckily this new IO. has been moved to somewhere else and is still cauing havoc [read the chang mai forum on the other planet TV.

I'm more or less the same. But immigration are happy if you show an ordinary bank book, as well, with movement in the account. The amount in the ordinary account is irrelevant as long as movement is shown.
